where theres a will, theres a way..
i've cold turkied it about three times with lexapro, just recently too. ( I stopped for 6 days, resulted in depression and high anxiety. but took my first 20mg today, and had a headache). I'm not going to lie, withdrawals a b***tch.
Do you have insurance? How did you pay for it before??
feel free to email : bmwsoco@yahoo.com
Please call your psychiatrist they almost always have samples to give you.
Definately call and as the doc that prescribed it for samples-not good to stop any medication for depression abruptly. Also Wal-mart has a list of meds that you can fill for four dollars
well you should try the generic version.... Or have your doctor prescribe you Celexa which isn't very different. I got my prescription filled for 4 bucks at walmart.. When i was on Zoloft I quit cold turkey and i didn't get any side effects if that helps.....
I take Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) in the evening, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over a year and a half, and it's working very well for me.
You DO NOT want to stop the Lexapro cold turkey - the withdrawal problems from that are VERY not pleasant. Been There, Done That. I stopped taking the Lexapro (20 mg) a long while ago - and the doctor said there was no problem, just stop taking it. Bologna... it was horrible!!
As the first person said - try to get some free samples from your doctor. If you want to get off the Lexapro *gracefully*, here is how to do it...
The key to getting off Lexapro is to get off it very slowly. It took several weeks for the Lexapro to reach full potency in your system - and the same has to happen when you want to get off it. Of course, stopping cold turkey is very not pleasant and you certainly don't want to do that!
To get off Lexapro, wean yourself to the lowest dose (5mg). If you're on 20mg, cut them in half (to get 10mg) and take those for a couple weeks, then go to the 5mg pills.
After you've been on the 5mg pills for a couple weeks, cut them in half and take the half-pills for a couple weeks, then take the half-pills every other day for a couple weeks, then you can stop. This will slowly remove the Lexapro from your system, and help eliminate the possibility of withdrawal problems.
If you wanted to add an extra step at the end, and take the half-pills every third day for a week, you can - but I don't think it's necessary.
I wish you the best of luck :-)
Paul.
I take Lexapro, and I know there is another very similar anti depressant, Celexa. I think it's less expensive.
I have no idea how much Lexapro costs, because I get it from my insurance. But I am curious to know how much it is.
Call your Dr or Pharmacy, and ask if there is anything they can do for you. They will help you in some way, if only a few more weeks of pills to help u withdraw. If you have no luck with them, then damn, go to the Emergency room in withdrawal - they will see the drama of it all, and help you.
i also take lexapro. i get mine through a drug assistance program. i know that wouldn't help you now but perhaps you could look into it for the future. as for now, as previously mentioned by other contributors, doctors usually have samples - please call your doctor and explain your situation. i've had my pharmacy give me a few to tide me over when having refill issues - so that may be a route you could take as well.
i was previously prescribed citalopram, generic for celexa, which is supposedly very similar to lexapro. that may be something you could try in the future to help with the cost. i hope this was of some help. please don't go cold turkey! it is no fun. best wishes to you. :)
I stopped taking lexapro after a year and a half for the same financial reason in regards to the price. My only problem was having short periods of being dizzy.
