• Is insomnia a common side effect in Lexapro?
|
I switched antidepressants and am now on Lexapro. Since starting this new medication, I've had major issues sleeping. Is that common in teenagers on Lexapro?
Thanks :)

• Which antidepressants don't have fatigue as a common side effect?
|
I'm thinking about the newer antidepressants like, Effexor, Cymbalta, and Lexapro. Out of these which ones don't cause fatigue. Oh, and if anyone knows of any other effective antidepressant please let me know.
Prozac and Celexa make me really fatigued. I don't have enough energy to exercise anymore, which worries me.

• How many people do you think are on antidepressants?
|
I'm on Lexapro now, and I know so many people at my school who are on some type of antidepressant medication.
Also, about half my family is on an SSRI now.
How many people do you think take antidepressants? They seem very common now. I heard they are the most prescribed drug in the USA.

• What are antidepressants with a common side effect of weight loss?
|
I was on Lexapro for about 9 months, which I stopped taking close to a year ago when I was 13. I had gained weight from the drug and still have the weight that was caused by it. A main cause of my depression is my weight. I am about to begin antidepressants once again, and I want to be on one that has a higher chance of weight loss, rather than weight gain. I researched and found out that some people have lost weight while on Prozac. I am going to talk to my doctor about taking Prozac, but I would like to know if there are other antidepressants that help with weight loss.

• Is it common for the effects of an antidepressant to wear off?
|
Has anyone else experienced this?
I have been taking Lexapro for about 2 months now. I could tell a difference and was doing okay until this last week. The effects seem to have worn off.

• Lexapro as treatment for premature ejaculation?
|
For those of you who don't know, Lexapro is a SSRI Antidepressant. One of it's most common side effects is difficulty achieving orgasm.
I have been on this for a few weeks, and I love it. It takes me when I'm watching porn 20+ minutes to ejactulate, when before it was like 3-4 LOL. It's awesome.
How come this isn't used to treat premature ejaculation? Who DOESN'T want sex to last longer??

• Lexapro antidepressant questions, (please help)?
|
I was prescribed Lexapro to treat my depression. I've read lots of different reviews and articles. The majority of the reviews say it caused people to gain weight. (I'm a teenage girl, so this bothers me) yet the articles say only 5-14% experienced weight issues. Along with lots of other side effects. Honestly, I'm nervous to take it after reading all this. But the doctor said I should take it, and I'm positive he knows better than me yet I'm still obsessing over this.
[e] And if the weight gain is a common problem, is it the pill ITSELF that causes the weight? Or the increased appetite? Because in that case you're still responsible for what you shovel into your mouth.
Any information would be soooo helpful.

• Is there an advantage to treating depression with Lexapro rather than Wellbutrin?
|
My psychologist suggested taking an antidepressant and I'd like to start as soon as possible (tomorrow would be good) and start putting my life back together. Unfortunately, this probably means going to the university clinic for a prescription. (I'll try a psychiatrist, but I'm afraid I may have to wait until after Christmas for an appointment, which doesn't thrill me.) So while the doctors there are nice enough, and I trust them not to prescribe anything dangerously stupid, they're not specialists and they're often in a rush, so sometimes it pays to go in knowing what to point out and what questions to ask.
From what my husband says and a bit of web browsing, I see that Wellbutrin is supposed to be nice because it doesn't have some of the common side effects associated with antidepressants - drowsiness, sexual dysfunction and weight gain. It may or may not come with more risk of seizures, though Wikipedia claims the evidence is unclear. On the other hand, Lexapro, which does come with these side effects seems quite popular, as do other typical SSRIs. I wonder why. Do they just work better?
I'm 30 yrs old. I'm not about to overdose on anything or kill myself. No other meds or health problems in the mix, for what it's worth.

• Is it common to want to find out what kind of meds people have ever taken?
|
I'm prepared to rattle off a list if I have to, coz I've taken nothing that doesn't just label me a dork with asthma and allergies who sometimes took light antidepressants.
But...is it even common for someone to ask?
By the way:
Shortly tried Zoloft once upon a time. My mom tried to tell everyone I was bipolar, so I got stuck on Depakote and Lithium for a week before I complained it was way wrong for me and the doctor could see how my mom was versus how I am, and understood I am okay enough to know what was wrong with me and what was not.
I took Stattera for a while. It was AWESOME, and I'm not ashamed.
Shortly tried Lexapro a couple times.
I take Singulair, Flovent, Proair, Loratidine (Claritin), prescription eyedrops I can't remember the name of currently, carry a pair of EpiPens, Symbicort (maintenance inhaler), and a multivitamin with lots of iron in it.
If anyone has any other meds on a list about me, they are either wrong, or were in notes about things they'd like to try me on for one reason or another, prolly just for fun and games, coz that is what some doctors do. :D
Another thing I wonder: should adults really be penalized for what their parents made them do as younger people? It's not the future adult's fault what medicine was forced on them. :D
I bet there are people that have had harsher meds than I have who wouldn't want anyone to know coz they are afraid of the stigma, but I'd like to let such persons know: It is okay. You can't help it. You're not the same person now anyway, right?
Thank you, Jerry M. I thought it was a strange thing too, but saw one person at this website who asked about someone taking Zyprexa. I thought...well, never mind. I thought it was not appropriate.
It reminds me of those people who ask you What color is your toothbrush? Do you love me? Why don't you love me? LOL.
Butterfly...do you consider...that sometimes...a person can be offended...on BEHALF OF SOMEONE ELSE?
:D
My only concern regarding myself would be how my list (asthma/allergies/Asperger's) affects an employer's views upon me. But then I have never applied for any kind of positions where my past list of meds would matter. But I know some people would want to do jobs like maybe the military, and they were put on meds for stuff they DO NOT have and treated, and it would be found out, and they couldn't be considered. :(
I wouldn't want to do that to my own kids. That is why if any of them see a counselor for some reason, I'm going to be very insistent they make sure all is done to avoid medicine unless absolutely necessary. In my opinion, unless someone is like, psychotic or currently suicidal, then they can wait on medicine.
My preteen daughter is going to be seen tomorrow and is a bright little girl who I would not want meds or unnecessary treatments in her background coz she wants to either be a teacher or a doctor...so far. :D

• Anyone on Wellbutrin?
|
I am contemplating asking my Dr. to put me on an anxiety medication due to being overly stressed out at work. I have ruled out benzos due to their addictiveness and also the SSRI antidepressants (Lexapro, Prozac, Paxil, etc.) due to common side effects like weight gain and loss of sexual interest. I have narrowed it down to Wellbutrin b/c of low side effects. Has anyone taken Wellbutrin for anxiety? If so, did it work and what kind of dise effects did you experience?
typo-meant side effects
