i stopped taking the wellbutrin because of the fact that it made me feel PSYCHOTIC and so anxious... i was crying all the time... ye, u get my point. and i gained like 5 lbs on it. i hear you arent supposed to gain wait on wellbutrin...
so today my doc prescribed me lexapro, and i have been reading all these different posts on how it made "jim" gain 60 lbs in year and " tara" gain 20 in 2 months, yada yada yada.... has anyone out there had these same experiences or is there any positive side aeffects to taking lexapro??

I know that many people claim that Wellbutrin causes weight loss, but my mom, a nurse, said that she knows two people that gained a LOT of weight from Wellbutrin. I'm currently taking buspirone and have stopped Lexapro. I was wondering if adding Wellbutrin with buspirone (which I take mainly for anxiety as a substitute for Lexapro) would aid in losing the weight that I gained with Lexapro. Does anyone have any direct experience with these medications?

Ok ,I have heard some are gaining weight,others don't change weight ,others loose weight..My question is does Lexapro cause gain weight because it makes you so sleepy and tend to eat more? In other words does it make a person lazy to gain the weight or does it give you weight anyway ..My doc just gave me this medicine and I don't want to gain weight nor loose weight ..any info would be of help ..so far the only side affect for me is I feel sick at my stomach for like 10 mins.

• Can an increased heart rate due to medication cause weight loss?

I just started taking the antidepressant Lexapro. I'm on day three and my body is getting use to it. I've been having constant anxiety attacks while taking this and can just feel my heart pounding in my chest. A side effect of this medication is of course an increased heart rate with irregular heart beats. My question is.. just like exercise when you increase your heart rate you are burning more calories. Does the same go for when medication increases your heart rate?

I have an eating disorder (bulimia), depression, and ADHD. My psychiatrist has recently changed my antidepressant from prozac to lexapro, and I'm on adderall for the ADHD. I've been reading about lexapro's side effects online and a lot of people have said that the medication caused them to gain weight. This information is really important to me because I just got out of treatment for my ED, am in recovery, and REALLY don't want to end up using eating disorder behaviors to counteract any weight gain caused by my meds. Even if the lexapro does cause weight gain, would the adderall possibly negate that because of its tendency to cause weight loss? I know that this question is better suited for me to ask my doctor, but I already know what her response would be. She would tell me that I shouldn't coose my antidepressant based on whether or not I'll gain weight, but by how well it rids me of depression. Excuse the expression, but duh; I already know that, and gaining weight will just send me right back into my eating disorder. So any information would be extremely helpful!

i was put on 10 mg of lexapro by gastroentrologist for 4 months and it did not improve my mental health or irritable bowel syndrome.
The psychiatrist then said i should change to 20 mg of celexa for some time and later he would put me on 40 mg of celexa.
Will I gain weight? I did not gain any weight while using lexapro for 4 months. Also will the medication improve IBS?
chilady: I have Bentyl at home but don't take it because on internet i read many bad things about it. But i admit Bentyl is great help for me.
I am 31 year old male. It is common for IBS patients to be put on SSRI's.

I started lexapro 10mg a couple of days ago and am HORRIFIED at all of the stories I have read from people saying it changed their metabolism and caused them to gain 30-60 lbs.
I need some reassurance. In the past year I have lost 20lbs and there is noooo way I am going to gain it back.
So my questions...
1. Will being careful what I eat and making sure to get some good exercise keep this medicine from making me gain weight?
2. I have read that lexapro has been approved for binge eating...so would it work the opposite way for someone who had that problem before taking the drug? Therefore causing weight loss?
I am taking it for Generalized Anxiety Disorder which I have had for almost 4 years. I took these meds after the birth of my son for a few months 4 years ago but did not note any weight gain as I was still overweight from having a baby.
Thank you for your advice, I am really nervous about this. I don't see how taking a pill can make you gain weight.

i was on 10 mg daily for about 6 months and gained 30 pounds. the pounds wont come off no matter what i do?
will going off the pill help with losing the weight i gained on it.
also what anti depressent does not cause weight gain or even causes weight loss.

I am only taking buspirone now and wanted to know if people found that there was significant weight gain (or loss) issues with this pill.
One respondant said that buspirone is associated with weight gain but not weight loss. I'm looking for personal experiences with buspirone and if they have noticed significant weight gain with the pill. If you are currently taking an SSRI or other antidepressent, please note that as they can also affect weight, too. Thanks for everyone's feedback!
