• Do Lexapro side effects and sexual side effects ever stop?
|
I'm a 27 year old male and I've been on 10MG of Lexapro for anxiety and it seems to be causing more problems than actually helping. First and foremost, I am sleepy almost all of the time and I feel completely zoned out all the time since I've been on it for 2 months.
Since I've been on the drug, I've had sexual issues. I used to masturbate several times a week, but now I barely masturbate at all due to lack of interest. Secondly, it takes forever for me to have an orgasm. This is very frustrating... as with almost all guys... masturbation and sex have been one of my primary methods of getting rid of stress. Not being able to achieve orgasm in either instances is depressing and causing more stress.
Do these side effects of Lexapro ever go away?

• Lexapro sexual side effects. Cures for men?
|
Lexapro works great for me, except for the sexual side effects. Can't live with it, can't live without it. I'm curious to know if others have stumbled across any 'cures' that counteract the sexual side effects of SSRIs. I've only heard of two: Royal Bee Jelly and Gingko Biloba, though I haven't tried either. I'm hesitant to add another drug, such as Wellbutrin, because I'd like to minimize prescription drug use if at all possible rather than add more and more like a chemistry experiment.

• Lexapro....good/bad? Im 17 and have been on it for 2 days. Need help with side effects etc....please help :)?

Ok, so im in highschool...and for past year ive been anxious and getting more and more depressed, so before it got worse my neuorogist put me on lexapro. I really dont want to have bad side effects, and i was wondering if when im in class...i will get any side effects on this drug that will embarras me? Im known as the "outgoing" funny kid, who loves to have a good time. No one will ever expect me to be on an anti-depressant (so im not tellin anyone), but will this effect my classroom studies and my friendships etc? Like will i start feeling sick in class, etc? Please help..when is the best time to take this medicine? I just took it now at 6:00 pm before we eat dinner (going to see if i get insomnia, if i do i will take in morning)...i also woke up at 4 in the morning last night with a mild headache which wouldnt go away (not a throbbing headache) : (I also have a soar throat right now..not related to lexapro...could be allergic which my headace could also be allergic)....please help.
I really want people who are on lexapro to answer...especially people around my age. Will it affect me in the classroom, will i get sidefeects in class room? When is best time to take it..how long do the side effects last???? When will i notice side effects?

• Doctor switched me from Pristiq to Lexapro becuase of sexual side effects. Does this make sense?
|
The doctor who prescribed Pristiq told me to let him know if there was sexual dysfunction issues because we could address that. I did let him know once (I was uncomfortable talking about this), but he didn't seem concerned about Pristiq and wanted to run hormone blood tests which all came back normal.
I don't see him any more and my current doctor referred me to a psychiatrist since she had no experience with Pristiq. (I have a very hard time coming off it and haven't had any success yet) The psychiatrist switched me to Lexapro because she said I should have less problems on it. Now I'm reading that Lexapro is notorious for sexual side effects and that it's actually more uncommon with Pristiq. I'm so discouraged! =(
I feel like the doctors only know whatever the drug rep decided to tell them as far as side effects and I don't trust that. I'm also afraid of weight gain and fatigue which I'm already struggling with because of thyroid problems.

• How long will this side effect last? lexapro.?
|
Just started taking Lexapro not even a week ago. Ive had some side effects. I know its all part of startiung a new drug. Two are particularly bothersome.
1.Not sleeping well despite fatigue and feeling strung out the next day and stimulants not waking me. Will this go away after a week or two?
2. I have been insanely aroused. Its uncomfortable because its consistant. I am always wanting sex and masturbation doesnt do the trick. It feels GREAT but leaves me more anxious and desperate for my husband to come home from work! Ive came randomly because, movements, underware against me, anything, Im aroused. That joke about men getting erect whenever the wind blows, lol, thats me(woman) buyt its very uncomfortable. Makes me anxious, irritable and uncomfortable because I just cant get that release, at least not until my husband finally gets home.
Of course he is super happy with this side effect and I think its nice but when can I expect the intensity to fade enough to where I can get through the day without changing my undeware multiple times or feeling like I have to lay down nakjed just so I dont have any clothes rubbing against it? I feel like a teen boy witgh his first porn mag!

• Lexapro. Weight gain? Sexual side effects?
|
Does anyone know why you actually gain weight on these drugs? I read that 5% of people *actually* have side effects like weight gain and sexual problems....if that is true - then how come so many people report them?!!!!
Whats actually happening - is it a change in metabolism?
My dr talked me into it. ...I took SSRIs in the 90s - paxil, prozac, and zoloft. I had weight gain and sexual side effects. Don't want these again. He swears it is more well tolerated. not sure I buy it. I dont' watn to gain weight or have these problems again. I was VERY reluctant to try it....
please give me your experiences! have a great day and thank you -

• Aren't people who see psychiatrists and told they need drugs for a mood disorder not likely to see the risks?
|
Aren't the people who see psychiatrists and told they need psychiatric drugs for a mood disorder not likely to know what negative effects drugs can have?
...and MDs are likely NOT to tell anyone about the negative side effects because they want the patient to comply with treatment, yes? If these people are more or less desperate and want the drug to work will they really care or will they be more vulnerable?
If you have no clue what I'm talking about:
1. Paxil http://www.enthalpy.net/archives/000028.html
2. Lexapro http://www.anxiety-and-depression-solutions.com/articles/conventional/pharmaceutical/lexapro.php

4. Zoloft http://www.pdrhealth.com/drugs/rx/rx-mono.aspx?contentFileName=Zol1503.html&contentName=Zoloft&contentId=66 (scroll down to "special warnings")

Gin&Colonic: But you may not be the typical desperate person with modest education.
Mina: Why are you assuming that someone just diagnosed with a mood disorder can act so rationally?
Christopher: If you truly have multiple psychiatric pathologies, it is highly unlikely that a psychiatrist sat you down for three hours and discussed the risks associated with any drug. Highly unlikely.
Christopher: To have to see 25 doctors and 17 psychiatrists only proves something is seriously wrong with the biological approach.

• I just flushed my medication down the toilet. Anyone else want to celebrate being drug-free?
|
I saw a psychaitrist last February for depression.
After taking Cymbalta, Abilify, Lexapro, Pristiq, Venlafaxine, Deplin, Viibryd, and Wellbutrin with no results and sleepiness, weight gain, feeling zombiefied as side effects I'd had enough. A cup of coffee helps more than all of those drugs combined.
I think I'll just stick to marijuana and alcohol for now on.

• What light concentration medication could I take? With not many side effects?
|
I was diagnosed with ADD when I was younger, but most of my life I've struggled with depression. Almost every antidepressant I try makes me like a zombie. I can't think and thus I can't focus on the things I love even more. I think that I might like to try a light medication to help my focus. Preferably one that doesn't change too much in the brain, and doesn't have many bad side effects.
I've known people who have tried aderol and say it was a miracle drug, but either led to addiction, or they forever felt worse off of it - worse than before they started. I can't focus on anything I love to do and I wonder if that's what is making me the most depressed. I've been like this since I became a teenager, and I'm 20 now. So seven years.
I sometimes have wondered if problems focusing and depression were connected, but I suppose many kinds of mood, or behavior problems can be linked. I have tried lexapro, effexor, zoloft, and now on wellbutrin. and it was good at first. I lost weight I wanted to lose. I started getting it together, and then I started feeling sluggish. I started just feeling out of my element. I no longer had terrible thoughts or hit the low notes that made me fall into a depressed state. I was in a fog where I couldn't see anything. I wasn't happy, I wasn't sad. For awhile it actually felt better this way. I didn't have to feel sad, and in time not feeling anything got boring.
I suppose it was nice to have the hunger supression in my medication, and I don't need to lose much like 10 pounds. What focusing drug would at least help give me my focus back without having many negative side affects if I take it or after I've stopped it. I guess not being so hungry all the time now would be nice. My priority is just getting better.
Of course I would go to the doctor! But that's basically what most doctors do! I wanted to see how some of these kinds of drugs effected other people so I could see if they were really for me. You internet people assume the worst.
