•Voting Question: what were your results with lexapro?
|
I'm a 25 year old male and my doctor prescribed me lexapro to help with my anxiety that I've been getting lately. He told me that there are very minimal side effects but after reading forums online I'm starting to second guess these pills. So have any of you taken lexapro? Have you experienced weight gain?

• Lexapro for anxiety and panic?
|
I did a search on another forum regarding a medication that I took in the past: Lexapro
I was reading my experiences that I posted on the other board in regards to Lexapro, explaining that when I was on the 20mg dose, I became manic from.
Also on one of my posts (on the other forum) I had my med list and both Lexapro and Ativan were on there explaining how they worked for me. The Ativan dosage was 0.5mg three times daily.
While of course a doctor is needed in relation to these questions I have a couple of questions:
1. If Lexapro 20mg caused me to become manic, could I have success at 10mg without switching to mania?
2. Is it possible to taper down from Xanax 2mg/day to Ativan .5mg TID?
I'm doing this research because I wanted to see if I could use an AD to help anxiety and panic in such a way so I can reduce the need for a benzodiazapine.
Of course I know I will need a doctor's help, as I would never make changes on my own.
I'm trying not to become over-obsessive with my medications but I hope you understand where I'm coming from.
I will of course be continuing to see my therapist once a week for 45min sessions each week.
Thanks,
~ Andy

• Withdrawl from Lexapro?
|
Hi every one--I have a friend who has been taking Lexapro for over 5 years now for PTS, they were on 20mg and was dropped down to 10 mg. which they took for over 2 years.
Last week their doctor began weining them off of the drug and has now been taking 5mg for the last 7 days.
Just out of curiosity--I wanted to know if any one on the forum has had any with drawl from this drug? If so what type and how long did it last.
I know so many people who are either on this drug or have been on it and I just wanted to know.
Thanks alot.
Thanks Paul--very interesting--, I believe that is what they are doing--except I will ask about cutting the 5 mg. in half for a few weeks .
Thanks Paul--My neighbor was not long here and she told me that she is taking the 5mg. and will need to be on that for awhile. Then taper down again!

• Looking for anxiety help. I'm on meds and have had therapy but nothing works, and looking for a good web forum?
|
I have been on all kinds of SSRIs, Lexapro, Prozac, Zoloft, and am now on 150mg of Effexor and 80mg of propranalol xr daily to no avail.
I have terrible anxiety and am entering my 4th year of it, I always feel there is something wrong with myself. The only med that seems to have worked was clonazepam but no anxiety doc is willing to prescribe it seems.
I have done everything, therapy, psychiatric nurse practitioners, the whole deal, and it's not helping. I do not abuse drugs, but the Klonopin I think really did help. I started with a specialist and they stopped giving it. Any ideas, or a good online anxiety forum you can point me to? Thanks!

• Lexapro, does it really make you gain weight?
|
I just got done having two children in a row. A year apart. My depression bugged me during the second and I took Prozac which killed my libido and after some time, stopped working. I get neurotic and a mild bit of depression-lazy, ect.. My recent baby is know 3 months and my doctor decided to give me Lexapro because of my libido problem and weight problem. She was very adimit that Lexapro is the miricle anti-depressant and it has very few side effects. Here is my problem, I have had two kids in a row and a thyroid problem. I am ready to lose weight. ALL the forums I have read on the internet have all said you gain weight with Lexapro!!! Does anyone have anything positive to say about the drug? Because I want to be happy but I also don't want to have a problem getting rid of all this depressing weight. Thank You.

• Will Lexapro withdrawal symptoms be worse if you have been on it for many years?
|
I wanted to add that i have been on Lexapro for about 7 years now. I've been on it since i was a freshman in high school, and i am now 20 years old. Over the years, i have been on many, MANY different combinations of anti-depressants, anti-anxiety pills, mood stabilizers, and sleep-aids for depression, anxiety, and bipolar. I have always been on Lexapro though, it was just finding the right combo of pills to go with it.
I've been very stable lately, and i've been on 30mg for about 2 years now (the other 5 years i was on 20 for the most part). i have already weaned myself off of Risperdal (mood stabilizer),which went well. I'm also on 36mg of Concerta, which i have not tried to taper down yet. I've been reading about all of the nasty withdrawal symptoms of Lexapro, and I'm scared about this.
Most of the experiences I've read on this site as well as other forums around the web, most people are stopping taking it after only being on it for a couple weeks to 2 years. Ive been on it for 7, so I'm really worried my symptoms are going to be much worse than others are describing, if it can even be any worse from what people are describing!
Is there anyone that has had experience with stopping Lexapro after being on it for many years?

• Are there any antidepressants that don't make you gain weight?
|
I took Lexapro for about 6 months and gained around 20-30 lbs. Doctor's say that it doesn't make you gain weight, but I've read countless forums where people say they have gained weight from it. I stopped taking Lexapro a few weeks ago. I need an antidepressant that doesn't make me gain weight, or I'm right back to where I started with being depressed. Lol
I would appreciate any help.

• Starting Lexapro Today - Need Advice?
|
I've suffered from panic attacks for about 5 years now. It took 6 months and a ton of diagnostic tests to rule out anything serious - and I mean everything under the sun. I've had almost every heart, brain, blood, and nerve test you can think of and everything says I'm healthy. I'm only 25 right now, and it's starting to effect my work and home life. After all those tests were done years ago, I was put on Paxil as it was assumed my symptoms (shortness of breath, racing heart, vertigo, trembling) but be due to panic attack or anxiety. I took it for about 2 years, and while it helped I felt like a zombie.
After 2 years on it, I tapered off with little difficulty and was clean for about a year. Now, about a month ago, my problems suddenly came back. I've been having panic attacks every day for weeks, and I simply cannot risk losing my job. So, after asking my friends who have dealt with similar problems, they highly recommended Lexapro as they claim it's easier to start and manage the side effects from.
Now, being the anxious person I am, I research it online in many places (medical sites to forums), and in general it seems like the best option for me. However, I'm a bit scared because some people say it gives them heart palpitations and shortness of breath, which seems WEIRD to me considering it should only effect seratonin levels.
Is it something I should be worried about? I don't want to take something that will give me symptoms like that and just make me panic MORE. My understanding was that nausea, headache, dry mouth, insomnia, and decreased libido were the common side effects... but I never heard of HEART or RESPIRATORY problems.
Should I be worried about this? I'm only starting at 5mg. Thanks and god bless.

• Just started taking Lexapro a couple of days ago, should I be feeling this way?
|
I have really bad anxiety/depression and since I've started taking Lexapro it's helping with the depression somewhat, but I have periods in which I feel like I'm about to lose my mind. I read on a couple of forums that this is completely normal until your body adjusts to it, what's your intake on it.
*Please don't bash the idea of me taking meds, thank you :]
I've been taking half the dose (5mg) in the morning and the other half at night. I'm just wondering if that feeling will go away as soon as the benefits of Lexapro start kicking in.

• is it safe to occasionally take adderall while on lexapro?
|
i'm prescribed lexapro 10mg and have been on it for 6 days. i'm not prescribed adderall but have taken it several times in the past for studying and long days at work (don't judge me ;) ), and have never had a problem with it. i have read in several forums that it is safe to mix the two on occasion. several sources have claimed that it's ok to mix lex and adderall but i want to be TOTALLY sure before i try.
