• Can withdrawal from Lexapro cause night terrors? If so, how can I prevent them?
|
I took Lexapro for 3 years and stopped it about 3 weeks ago. I tapered off, but not slowly enough. I am experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms, like dizzyness, general malaise, trouble sleeping, and irritability. But I am also experiencing night terrors (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror ) and am not able to sleep because of them!
I have experienced night terrors before, usually when I'm over-tired and immediately go into REM sleep. But now I'm wondering if this is part of the Lexapro withdrawal, since Lexapro has a "vivid dreams" side effect.
What's happening to me is that I drift to sleep, have a night terror which always ends with my trying to scream "help me!" to wake myself up, then I wake up. I am usually afraid to go back to sleep, but I try anyway. Within an hour, I have another night terror, and this continues all night. So I am not getting half the sleep I normally get.
Any advice on dealing with these night terrors would be appreciated.
The more I research, I think instead I might be experiencing sleep paralysis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis ) instead of night terrors.
Either way, they are horrible!

• Lexapro withdrawal making me feel sick?
|
I've been on10 mg of lexapro for 7 months for panic attacks and just stopped taking it about 3 days ago cause it wasn't helping much and its making me feel really sick. I've read it can do that to you but I feel really dizzy, sick to my stomach, headache, irratible, really anxious and just a whole bunch of other things. Does anyone know how long this will last? Cause right now this is making me want to start taking it again just so I don't have to deal with this.

•Voting Question: Lexapro withdrawal help?
|
I've been on Lexapro for about five or six years. I'm currently taking the lowest dosage possible and I've been trying my best to take Vitamins instead of Lexapro. I've heard about horrible withdrawal symptoms, fortunately I haven't had problems with my emotions, but I am having severe problems...I get physically ill and spend most of my day in the bathroom. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to push through this?

• How long lexapro withdrawal will last?
|
I was on 20 mg lexapro for not too long... (i've been on lexapro all together for about 2 months, and Effexor XR before that), and decided to get off the drug as I felt it made me worse. For 4 days I cut the 20 mg pill in half and took 10 mg, and have now been completely off for 3 days (well this is the 3rd). I can definitely notice some withdrawal symptoms, like the dizziness and my mind feeling weird... how long does the withdrawal last? I have clonazepam at night to help me sleep, so that helps. Btw... I don't want to take another lexapro pill to wean off more, I just want to ride this out till it's over. I just want to know others experiences on how long this may last and if it could get worse?

• Help with Lexapro withdrawal.?
|
My Dr has decided to take me off Lexapro (10mg/day) because it was no longer help with my panic attack and general anxiety issues. He has switched me over to Buspar (tapering up to 15mg twice/day).
Currently I'm on 3rd day with NO Lexapro. It's been a brief taper 5 days at .5 mg, 4 days at 2.5mg, per Dr's order, with 2.5mg of Buspar twice/day. Last night was my first dose of .5mg of Buspar. I took .5mg this morning.
Starting yesterday I start having flu like symptoms which from what I've read is normal for the withdrawal period. But does anyone have any suggestions on ways to help get through this? I've been taking a multi-vitamin and drinking lots of water. But I had to call of work today because I was so "out of it" and sick to my stomach I knew I wouldn't do any good. I don't know how to function right now. It's like my body has shut down!
Anyone able to give some help pointers on dealing with this awful withdrawal crap? I'm worried it's only going to get worse... Does anyone know how long it lasts?

• Help: lexapro withdrawal symptoms?
|
I weaned off lexapro about 4 months ago. The past four months have been really hard. I can't even remember what I was like before lexapro. I'm constantly sad and dwelling on the past. I obsess on painful memories and have become a little paranoid. I can't decide if my current fears are real or not. I can't tell if I'm overreacting or not. I have horrible mood swings throughout the day for a few days then suddenly i will feel fine for another. I try to convince myself that my life isn't so terrible and that it may be a temporary withdrawal symptom. If this is the antidepressant how long does this last. I just want feel normal again. I wish I had never taken it. I'm pretty sure I feel worse than before I started taking it. I knew I had anxiety issues before but never the helplessness and sadness as I do now. What can I do to feel better?

• Lexapro withdrawal problems HELP?
|
I've been taking lexapro for about 2 years now, taking a full pill and recently my doctor and parents have been trying to get me off it. So, I've been taking half a pill for about a week now, however last night I had a school dance to attend to. and i just BROKE, emotions went wild. Felt miserable, went home early, locked myself in my room and contimplated suicide. Luckily I think suicide is a wimps way out, but still Ive never been this bad. Is it a symptom of withdrawal? should I keep trying to get off of these pills? or should i continue taking them? Im so lost right now

• I am very confused abut Lexapro Withdrawal?
|
I found a WikiAnswers page that listed common complaints/withdrawal symptoms when going off Lexapro and guess what..
I got ON meds to begin with because I had most of the very symptoms that people experience when getting OFF the med: Extremely vivid/ active/bizarre dreams all my life but major complaints being: Electric shock sensations around my mouth, with occasional "brain zaps" followed by difficulty breathing (as if I couldn't get enough air) then a "cataplexia" type reaction where I would slump, slur my words, feel 'unreal" then fall promptly asleep. Everyone said it was anxiety/panic.
I have tried to understand this for YEARS because I would feel that way while doing activities I THOROUGHLY enjoyed (watching tv, being around friends, playing computer games, driving etc).
My cocktail has almost completely fixed all of my complaints, but my questions still plagued me. Why the reaction when relaxed? I mentioned this to my pdoc again and he finally wrote me a script for an EEG to see if I'm having seizures (the EEG is to be preformed both while I'm awake and asleep. Now I just need to find someone who can give it lol).
Anyhow, every time I've stopped my meds the complaints roared back to life in full force by day 3. (Which coincides with much of what I read from others).
I've always assumed it was just the anxiety/panic reaction I've always had while not medicated. It's very interesting to me that people have these sensations from **withdrawal** and I had them before seeking treatment (as well as "withdrawal').
For me, I have those sensations often hourly, often every day for 8 years now (when not on meds). I call them "adrenaline zaps" and surges.
I'm loosing more and more faith in meds and of finding any peace from these symptoms.
Anyhow... now I'm all the more curious if what I'm now going through from no meds is withdrawal or my original problem resurfacing lol
And I'm curious about what causes the withdrawal in other people- is it from the med itself or too much/not enough of some hormone? Because what if that relates, somehow to my original symptoms.
I know I'm beating a dead horse here.. I've asked similar questions before. But when I found that site, it roused more curiosity lol
The only thing new and original that's going on since stopping my meds is nausea and loss of appetite . I feel that those are my withdrawal symptoms and the rest is just the same 'ole same 'ole.
I had a big religious assembly this weekend and at the end of it I was emotional and entered a panicked state... an hour and a half later, when I was able to check, my BP/pulse was 150/96 and 114 (resting- but a fast pulse is normal for me) I'd hate to know what it was in the middle of my attack lol *sigh*
I REALLY hate this. But I need to be med free for the EEG, so......
Anyone have any theories, encouragement, advice?
I've cut out caffeine, so hopefully that will help *some*.
