Is there a way to estimate the value of a home? Example add X amount of dollars per bedroom, etc... I know it depends on location and condition, but there HAS to be a way to estimate home values.

I should at least be able to "understand" within a reasonable margin of error the value of a home.

What makes a home lose the MOST value or ADD the most? etc...
The reason I ask is because I have NO CLUE!

Any help with understanding this will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I am wondering if anyone in Real Estate in MASS can help me. Are the values of homes in the Boston area and south of Boston going to go down in the next year? Or are they just going to stablize? I know some areas will never go down but im talking typically not one specific area.
I want to buy a house but I am having trouble finding the REAL value. Is there a place on line where I can check out home values? For free?
I used zillow but my understanding is that this is not accurate?
Home has not changed, yet an increase of 94,000 dollars? How do I fight this and win? I know my home is not worth what they claim in the condition it is in. I dont understand how in theses economic times they claim home values are increasing?

I am in a neighborhood that is all houses (of varying size and value). Recently someone proposed building two 8 family apartment buildings across the street behind my neighbors house on about 2 acres. Is there any place I can find comparative examples of this type of development and see the impact on home values in the surrounding area? My gut instinct is to sell immediately, but I’d like to have some data behind the decision.
Im looking for how much home values in my area have gone up each year (% wise) starting in 2001 thru present. I'm also curious what my home might be worth. I want to do this without using a realtor if possible. For free hopefully. Thanks!!
The main area of interest for me is near Seattle, Washington. I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are on whether home values will be dropping more or if this is a fine time to buy.
