• Do i have anything to worry about with the drug LEXAPRO?
|
I was given LEXAPRO, to treat my depression, i asked if it was safe to use in pregnancy and the only answer i got was yes, i went to a different doctor the other day to get more and the doc said "has anyone told you the risks with taking this medication", and i said "NO what risks", and he said that "this drug can cause abnormalitys in my unborn child", when i heard this i was furious.
He said there is A,B,& C grade anti depression tablets, C being one of the higher risk drugs, Lexapro happens to be C grade, so im really worried now, i have been on it for 2wks now, and im currently 12wks pregnant, do you think i have anything to worry about? and if my baby does have abnormalitys, should i take them to court for giving me faulse information? Im really mad, because legaly they are suppose to tell me the risks involved but they the didnt!

• Are You Aware That Drug Companies Pay Doctors To Prescribe And Promote Their Drugs?
|
"Document Details Plan To Promote Costly Drugs"
New York Times
Sept. 1, 2009
"... In February, federal prosecutors in Boston announced a civil lawsuit against Forest claiming that the company illegally marketed both Lexapro and a closely related antidepressant, Celexa, for use in children and paid kickbacks to doctors to induce them to prescribe the medicines to children.
It is illegal to pay doctors to prescribe certain medicines to their patients. It is not illegal to pay doctors to educate their colleagues about a medicine. In recent years, federal prosecutors have accused many drug makers of deliberately crossing that line. ..."
..................................................
" ...It is impossible to unpack all of the reasons for these prescriptions, but some industry critics say one reason could be the money doctors make from Forest. Psychiatrists make more money from drug makers than any other medical specialty, according to analyses of payment data. And Forest gives more money and food to doctors than many of its far larger rivals. Vermont officials found that Forest’s payments to doctors in 2008 were surpassed only by those of Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Novartis and Merck — companies with annual sales that are five to 10 times larger than Forest’s.
Forest’s 2004 plan for marketing Lexapro offers detailed information about how the company planned to direct this money to doctors.
Under “Rep Promotional Programs,” the document said the company planned to spend $34.7 million to pay 2,000 psychiatrists and primary care doctors to deliver 15,000 marketing lectures to their peers in one year.
“These meetings may be large-scale dinner programs with a slide presentation, small roundtable discussions or one-on-one advocate lunches,” the document states.
Under “Lunch and Learns,” the company intended to spend $36 million providing lunch to doctors in their offices. “Providing lunch for a physician creates an extended amount of selling time for representatives,” the document states. ..."

• Can teens be drug free w/ Bipolar or Depression? Info needed on Cymbalta Lexapro Lanictal?
|
I just wanted to learn a little about these drugs before going to my sons Dr. appointment. They might not even come up but I would like to get some information on them. Also if people with Bipolar can have a normal life maybe with out drug therpy and just therpy? I know this is a wide range question depending on a persons situation. Some say drugs can numb feelings and not get to the root of the problem, others say with out them maybe they wouldn't exist. I feel Bipolar and depression are so hard to understand but as a mom I need to, then again just trying to understand a teenager w/ raging hormones is difficult. I know Its harder now then when I was in school, there are so many more pressures. Sometimes I think as adults we need to take a step back and remember how it was . [and then times that by 2 in todays world] So any infomation out there would be greatly appreatied. Thanks!

• Is there a difference between a psychologist and drug dealer?
|
I scolded a friend of my mother's, and she thank me.
She said her daughter took her to a psychologist, so I immediately reacted, and got angry. I told her I wanted to see the antidepressants the psychologist gave her.
She was amazed I knew she gave her antidepressants. I told her that that's what they do. The psychologist gave her Lexapro. So I immediately went on-line, and printed out the information about that drug.
It's used to treat anxiety, it's side efect are depression and possible thoughts of suicide!!!!!!!!!!!
She cried when she read the part of thoughts of suicide, the psychologist didn't tell her anything about the side efects, she just told her not to get analysis.
I asked her if the psychologist gave her a prescription, and she said no because they were free samples. I told her she would test positive for drugs if she had the cholesterol analysis she needed that day. And then she got even more upset.
I explained to her how the drug dealers on the street work. They give drugs to people for free, then the start charging when the people get hooked on them.
It's not different with psychologists. Drug companies give the psychologists a lot of samples for their patients. After they start taking antidepressants, they can't stop taking them abruptly because the side efects of those drugs will be unbareble. The patients need to continue taking the pills, and the psychologist get big commision.
Fortunately, she hadn't taken any pills yet. After our talk, she thanked me, and left the samples with me. I threw them away.
To me, they are no different than drug dealers in the street. I don't care if they went to college or not, their actions are no different than the ones of a drug dealer.
Anyone disagrees?

• Why do doctors tell me not to check the internet for information about my drugs?
|
Now, I'm not a huge fan of medicine in the first place, but I go for it when I need it (I take anti depressants/benzos), so when my first doctor was prescribing me all these certain medicines that were making me sick well past the "give it a month or two" phase, I had told her that I had been looking at different drugs and it looked like there wasn't much good to a lot of them (specifically Lexapro) . She told me to stop looking on the internet for reviews and such.
For some reason I felt offended by this, and I know that every drug works differently for people, but I can't figure out why I was so mad about this. My new doctor prescribed me another medicine (Buspar) that didn't work for me, so I told him about the internet thing, and he said the same thing.
I'm on Zoloft and Klonopin now, and they're working fine, but I'm still wondering if it was just me over analyzing or is there something behind it?
ie; Do doctors make money off prescribing certain medicines or what?

• Information on prescription costs in Illinois and Indiana?
|
I'm doing a class project dealing with the costs of prescription drugs in Illinois and Indiana. I'm looking for information about the cost, and how the costs are determined, for Lexapro, Zoloft, Vaz, Amoxicillin, Vicodin, Zocor, and Paxil. We are looking for the cost of these prescriptions before insurance costs. I'm feeling pretty lost and would appreciate any links or ideas that anyone could offer.

• Has anyone taken Pristiq?
|
My doctor is considering giving me Pristiq for my depression after a bad turn with Lexapro. However, all the usual sites I go to for information on drugs are almost completely devoid of feedback on this drug.
I've gathered that it's related to Effexor, but I can't find much information from people who have taken Pristiq without Effexor withdrawal symptoms overlapping the timeframe.
Has anyone here tried Pristiq? What were your experiences? Would you recommend it?

• Can lexapro and zoloft lethal be lethal taken together? I am finding conflicting reports?
|
Anna Nicole Smith's son died from a lethal combination of antidepressents in his body. I was reading an article on it and the pathologist said that zoloft and lexapro can be lethal when taken together. So I decided to check for drug interactions online with these two medications and every website says there are no interactions. Is this false information?
