• Has anyone switched from Lexapro to Citalopram?
|
From what I have been reading, most people seem to go from citalopram to lexapro. I am the other way around. Mostly because of financial reasons since I lost my health insurance. I'm worried that I will get the withdrawal symptoms from going off lexapro as well as the side effects for starting a new drug. Any thoughts or facts would be great. Thanks so much.

• Side effects of Lexapro?
|
I have always struggled with depression and anxiety, but I have always been able to maintain it. I started a new job about a year ago and its extremely stressful. I've been having panic attacks and pretty serious depression so I saw my PCP about it. She prescribed 10 mg of Lexapro once a day and Atavan as needed.
Last night I felt completely fine, but I took one Lexapro as directed and within a few hours I started feeling very weird. I felt extremely confused and loopy. I developed a terrible headache and a feeling of pain and pressure in my left ear. I went to sleep much earlier than I normally do, but woke up several times during the night. When I got up in the morning, I felt extremely weak and could barely get out of bed. I didn't have the strength to open a soap container or iron my clothes for work. I noticed that my pupils were extremely dilated. I somehow made it to work but felt extremely foggy and weird. I had the same headache and ear pain all day.
I called my doctor today and told her about the symptoms. She said that the symptoms were not related to the Lexapro or the fact that I'm also on Zyrtec (for allergies) and a 14 day course of Aaugmentin (for a sinus infection which has since cleared), but were caused by my anxiety. She doubled my Atavan dose and told me to take that and to keep taking the Lexapro.
I talked to my mom who said that her and my brother have both had severe and unusual drug reactions with anti-depressants or anti-seizure medications (especially when combined with common antibiotics). A neurologist told her that these kinds of reactions can be hereditary.
I also have a Chiari Malformation and I suspect that the side effects may be related to that. I don't feel comfortable taking the Lexapro again or even trying to take the Atavan because the way that I reacted did not seem right at all. I realize that I shouldn't have a reaction so quickly, but I can't imagine what else would have made these symptoms come on so fast.
I would like to keep taking it but I can't function in daily life. Has anyone else had experiences like this with Lexapro (especially anyone with neurological problems)? What should I do?

• Lexapro and weight loss?
|
I'm currently taking 10mg of Lexapro each day. I have gained some weight since taking it, but I also believe its mainly due to the fact that I've been eating like a cow. So, I've decided to start Weight Watchers and I'm doing "The Firm" workout, which I've had success with before. Has anyone been able to lose weight while still taking Lexapro?? I'm hoping most of my weight gain is from eating and not a side effect of the drug.

• Does having high cholesterol delay the absorption of medication?
|
I'm taking an SSRI, Lexapro, and a psychostimulant, Adderall.
I haven't felt the strongest, full effect from these medications and wondered if the fact that I have high cholesterol maybe delays the absorption of the drug into the bloodstream or the overall effectiveness of the medication

• Coming off Lexapro?
|
I am proud to say that I am now 9 days without lexapro, but unfortunately feeling some of the side effects. The worse one is obsessive thinking. It came out of no where and I felt like I was going crazy, but after some looking around on the internet I found this is only a condition and I am not going homicidal or suicidal. I know these thoughts are only a form of OCD and the fact of how guilty and anxious I feel after they occur shows Im not going crazy. Damn this stupid drug and damn the ahole doctor thatput me on it with no warnings. My question for all of you is how long before the lexapro is completely out of my system and my brain is back to normal. Its not that I cant handle the obsessive thinking, dizzyness, headahces, nausea, but I just want to know how long I am looking at. Anyone that reads this please never take an SSRI and warn the ones you love. These drugs do help but unless your ready to stay on them forever they do more bad than good.

• Need advice on coming off Lexapro, please.?
|
Hello,
I am an 18 and a half year old male living in the United States. A short time after I turned 17, I was put on Lexapro for anxiety and depression. I've been taking 20 mg/day It worked fairly well throughout my senior year. About a year ago, I made my first attempt at quitting it, so I stopped cold-turkey. It was horrible. I made another attempt about 6 months later, and slowly reduced the dosage. When I got to about 10 mg/day more withdrawal symptoms began. I became unstable, violent, and had the worst mood swings.
Now after my first semester in college, I have noticed that Lexapro is useless to me now-but I am physically addicted to it. The past few weeks it has done nothing to improve my mood or lessen my anxiety, which is why I feel like it's time to be done with it for good. In fact, I feel as if it has made my symptoms worse.
However, coming off of it is still a nightmare. I've cut down to 15 mg/day on average, and I try to occasionally skip dosages. It's been a few days and I feel different. But the lower my dose goes, the stronger the withdrawal symptoms become.
I have also been a daily marijuana smoker for the past year. Recently I cut down on that greatly as well, but I've noticed that MJ helps my anxiety more than Lexapro does (in small amounts). I am not planning on stopping my marijuana use because it is beneficial, stress-relieving, and potentially therapeutic to me. I do not use any other drugs except tobacco.
I'm looking for any advice I can get. Coming off this medicine makes me feel like everything is a bad dream. I need to stop using this so I can live a normal life again. I don't even remember what it's like to experience emotion without this drug because I've been on it for so long. How can I cleanse my body of this? How can I better tolerate the withdrawal (mood swings, brain zaps, irritability, unpredictability of emotions?) I think I'm in a good enough place in life to rid myself of this, and I am prepared to suffer until it's over.
So please help me out and wish me luck.
EDIT: By "I am in a good place" I mean that I have a good GPA, work 25 hours a week, and I have a social life.

• lexapro and unusual bruising?
|
I've been on Lexapro (for depression) for about a month. A couple of days ago i noticed a HUGE bruise on my calf, surround by a bunch of smaller bruises. I have no recollection of hitting or bumping my leg to cause such a large bruise. I was re-reading the side effects for my medication and it stated that unusual bruising is considered a severe side effect of the drug and requires medical attention. So my question is, how bad would the bruising have to be to be considered unusual and if the bruising is in fact caused by the medication, what does that mean? What did the medication cause to happen? Is it urgent that I contact my doctor? TIA!
