Lexapro vs. Paxil-- which has less effect on creativity and concentration?
I took Paxil for several years and the litany of side effects everyone mentions (weight gain, no orgasms, sleepiness etc) were present but I always felt clear-minded.
On lexapro, however, I felt a complete ability to carry out complex mental tasks, to focus or to come up with interesting ideas. I was wrapped up in a cocoon 24/7.
This seems to go against the conventional wisdom one finds on these websites. Does it really just depend on the person?

• Paxil vs. Lexapro Weight Gain/Loss?
|
I am on my way to getting off of Paxil and onto Lexapro. I've been on Paxil for 9 years and while it works for my anxiety, it has caused me to gain about 15-20 lbs. I would like to hear from people who got off Paxil (or another SSRI) and onto Lexapro. How did Lex affect your weight?
I NEVER had a weight issue before starting Paxil. I was 5'4 and 120 pounds, could eat whatever I wanted, and was fine.

• Paxil vs. Lexapro?
|
The doctor gave been Paxil for anxiety and it worked well but I had caused huge weight gain (18 lbs in a year) and had sexual side effects. He has now switched me to Lexapro saying its relatively new and does not have these two side effects. Has everyone tried Lexapro and not had these or other side effects?

• Celexa vs paxil vs prozac?
|
Ok so here is the quick run down. I have tried wellbutruin, lexapro, and our currently on 20mg of celexa. Wellbutruin worked well but then I started having panic attacks. So tried Lexapro, HUGE drop in sex drive. Now on Celexa feel even more drepressed. I know side effects are different for everyone but would love so feedback on others experiences. So my question is should I switch to Prozac or Paxil? Or should I have my Celexa dose upped? The only side effects I worry about is putting on weight(I already have weight issues) and sex drive. I can handle headaches, dizzy, etc. I have no insurance so can't afford to pay $80 to discuss with the doctor. I was just curious about anyone else who sufferes from depression and has had experiences with different meds. Thanks in advance

• Celexa/Lexapro Vs Zoloft?
|
Alright so I've narrowed it down to two meds: Zoloft and Celexa/Lex
I was on Zoloft from ages 13-17 and it worked great for me. The only problem I have is that it seems to cause panic attacks in people for the first 4 weeks, and as someone with anxiety now, I don't know if I could handle that :(
The issue I have with Celexa/Lex is that since Celexa is in the same PGP substrate family as Paxil and Effexor, and I had horrid withdrawal symptoms and Serotonin Syndrome from the Pax, do you think I should even try Celexa/Lex?
I'd like to hear some debate between Celexa/Lex users and Zoloft users.
There's also Emsam, but I heard that makes some people really angry lol. I think I'll take anger over anxiety and withdrawal symptoms!
I'm currently on Effexor for 3.5 weeks and need to get off it NOW because I've read that the withdrawal symptoms are even worse than Paxil, and I've experienced the Paxil nightmare after being on it for 10 years

• Prozac Vs. Zoloft. Which causes less constipation?
|
I have been prescribed Prozac 20mg for my anxiety. I have been taking one everyday for about 2 months. I didn't really experience any bad side effects at first. But then I started feeling a little dizzy, headaches and stomach pain. The dizziness and headaches have stopped, but I still feel stomach pain. And I have been having trouble with constipation. Towards the end of the first month of taking it, I was constipated for about 8 days. I saw my doctor about it and he prescribed me Colace 100mg. I take 3 of those a day. I'm still having trouble with the constipation and stomach pains and it's been about 2 months that I have been on these Prozac, and about 3 weeks that I have been taking the Colace. I am wondering if the constipaton and stomach pains are likely to subside? And if Zoloft would work and not cause the same stomach issues? I have tried a few anti-depressants before (Lexapro, Paxil, Zoloft), and Prozac has always seem to work the best for me and have less side effects, but this is the first time have had these side effects from it. Do other anxiety/anti-depressants have less side effects?? And would it be a good idea to switch to Zoloft??
P.S.
No smart ass answers please.

•Voting Question: Should I risk taking Lexapro?
|
Hi, My name is Amanda and I just started seeing a PA. After telling her all my symptoms and thoughts, she recommended that I try the SSRI Lexapro. I've been battling Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiey, and Depression since I was about 12 or 13. When I was 14 my mom put me on half of her Paxil which would be 15 mg, and I took that for a year and a half, and then ended up weining myself off of it when I was almost 16. Im now 17 and a senior in high school, and I feel awful. I keep having suicidal thoughts nonstop, anxiety attacks, and feel just really blah. My sex drive has decreased a lot with my boyfriend and I havent even been on any SSRI's recently. I havent started on the Lexapro yet, but Im kinda scared because I read that it can cause a decreased sex drive, and mine is already decreased by a lot... I read that 7 percent of people taking lexapro for GAD had a greater decreased sex drive vs. 3 percent for depression. I have both.. I really want my sex drive to increase while treating my GAD and Depression. So should I risk taking the Lexapro or try something else? Im so confused :( Please help!

• Which is best? TCA Vs. SSRI Vs. SNRI?
|
Which is better for a person who suffers from anxiety primarily, followed by ADHD and, then Depression? and what is really the difference between these. I have found doctors to peddle what they prefer vs. what may suit an individual and this is driving me crazy as each one wants 4-6 weeks before changing and this is becoming a long and really annoying journey. I had best results with Paxil but it did have some nasty side effects (sexual). Now I am on Wellbutrin ramping up to an augment with Adderall, but that still leaves the anxiety piece unaddressed and this concerns me. I keep hearing people rave about Lexapro (Doctors too) and (Effexor) what's the difference. Finally doctors keep telling me that anxiety medications should only be taken for short periods of time (Xanax) but then I find out there are patients who have it as an augment to an SSRI indefinitely so what gives? I know everyone is different but there has to be a general consensus of some sort.
