• mixing alcohol and lexapro effects?
|
im a 15 year old girl (sophmore) and i take 20 mg of lexapro everyday and last nite i had alot of alcohol and i swear i started to see things. i thought logs were cats and small trees were people. i was at a party and i had a little trouble walking and dancing straight. also i know that by the end when the alc starts to wear off i get grumpy and frusterated with people. before the party i pregamed and had a good amount to drink and i began to be scared of everything (music, plants, cars EVERYTHING) so i smoked 3 ciggarettes to calm down and it worked, they were my ciggs by the way and then later on i smoked 2 more. i didnt have weed for the night.i just wanna know if these side effects are normal? and this isnt the first time i do this either...
-thanks

• Can I drink alcohol on lexapro?
|
I turned 21 last June. I've been drinking alot since. I take lexapro for my anxiety. I struggle with agoraphobia which means I have a fear of getting an anxiety attack outside of my house. So I have a problem going far from my house. I've noticed oddly enough that alcohol helps me calm down enough to get out of my house. I know that I shouldn't count on alcohol or treat it like medicine but I do like to drink. My friend informed me that mixing alcohol and lexapro could ruin my kidneys and have bad effects on my body. I was reading some other posts on here about mixing the two and how they have really bad effects from it but I haven't noticed anything and I've been taking lexapro for about 3 years now. I did however just up my dose to 20mgs. So I guess I'm wondering if I don't see any side effects is it ok to have one day a week to have a few beers? I just don't want to have any unforeseen problems sneak up on me.

• Lexapro, Effexor XR, Drinking, Smoking....?
|
Hello all, This question pertains to SSRIs, smoking marijuana, and drinking alcohol. I have been on lexapro for 2 years now. Started at 10mg/day then around 1 year I went down to 5mg/day then after 4 months down to 5 mg every other day then I tried every 3rd day became very anxious and now I am back on 5mg/ every other day. Well the bad thing is that the latest messing with dosages started to give me wierd side effects (headahce, less coordinated...etc) so I went to the doctor. He suggested that I go to effexor xr 37.5 mg every day from lexapro. Now I want to get off SSRIs completely thats why i went to every 3rd day but obviously am not ready with the panic attacks. I still strive to get off these things though completely. Should i listen to the doc or stick wit the lexapro? Next whats the deal with alcohol and lex or effexor. From what I have read it seems lex isn't as bad as effexor to mix with alcohol. Finally does smoking mary jane while on these drugs hurt you? thanks!
Alright I forgot to mention that I know a lot of people dispise these drugs and I admit I agree and thats why I want to get off them but have found I cant simply cause of how terrible my anxiety got after a year of being fine from going to 5 mg every 3rd day (I read the halflife of lex is 3 days and possibly why it effected my so much). So please don't advise me to get off them because I want to but I simply can't right now not until I am out of school and have more time to relax. And o yes by the way I smoked almost daily on lex since i started but have not since my anxiety flared up which has been 2 weeks nad I drink at most 3 times a week 8-10 beers each time. Thanks again all!

• How does alcohol affect Cipralex (Lexapro)?
|
I was just prescribed Cipralex (called Lexapro in the USA) for anxiety, and was told by my doctor that I couldn't drink any alcohol. My pharmacist, however, told me it was OK to have a couple of drinks while on Cipralex, just to avoid binge drinking and drinking too often. I like drinking, I like going out with my friends and having a few beer. Now I know binge drinking is out of the question, but does anyone have any real, first hand information about having a few beer while on Cipralex (Lexapro)? If I get a headache or another mild side effect from the combination, it's fine, I'd just rather not go into cardiac arrest. Thank you in advance.

• Apprehensive to start Buspar due to bad experience with Lexapro. What do you know about Buspar?
|
I am really nervous about side effects, Lexapro has way too many of them for me. I have not heard much about Buspar. What do you know about it? Am I ok to start it during the week? I don't want it to make me sick because I cannot afford a day off of work. I know this is a bad question, but I am curious, can you drink alcohol on Buspar? On Saturdays I go to football games and would love to be able to still drink there. I could not do that with Lexapro because it made me sick. Thanks for your help :)

• 26yr.old suffering lifetime of depression: raised in divorce/alchoholic household; are meds worth it? Lexapro?
|
Been suffering from anxiety and depression all of my life- I don't want to point blame, but would say it arose from an alcoholic father and early childhood divorce. First attempted medication in high school, but found alcohol to be a much quicker fix...I have been a heavy drinker since-- most notably through college (not sure how I made it out). I try to remain self-reflective of current drinking habits now, have a great job and feel that I continue to impress people, but feel really empty inside. With the recent end to a long relationship, I am contemplating medication (Lexapro specifically). I feel that I have never been able to concentrate due to a wondering, depressed mind and it is currently worse then ever.
I have attempted positive thinking practices, finding religion, drugs, and whatever else I can to find inner peace but always get distracted . Is medication the answer? My worries stem from side-effects and the idea that I cannot drink alcohol. Any advice?

• Scared to take lexapro, please help?
|
About a month ago, I was working out on a sunday morning. After the workout, I had a massive panic attack (I've experienced only very small ones twice in the past while driving) for no reason. Since that day, I've had intense feelings of anxiety almost every day, and in the last week or so it got bad enough to where I had to start taking off work. Because of what I have read online, in the last couple weeks I also began cutting caffeine and reducing alcohol (i'm a weekend drinker). I completely removed caffeine from my diet which coincided with the worst week. I finally got in to see a doctor today and he gave me a prescription for lexapro and lorazepam to be taken daily.
I am extremely scared to take lexapro given the potential side effects and some of the testimonials I've seen. It sounds almost as if once you start them, you are basically bound for life. Is there any other hope that this will just go away? I mean it came out of nowhere spontaneously at 26 years of age, can't it disappear just the same? I have some other facts below:
- I wake up with a lot of anxiety, but if I drink even a small amount of caffeine, such as a half cup of coffee or a cup of black tea, my anxiety goes away almost completely for about 3-4 hours, and then returns in full force.
- At the time I had the first panic attack, I was on a creatine supplement for about 2 weeks, and had consumed it immediately after the workout and right before the panic attack. I never took it again since that day.
- I was accustomed to drinking a good amount of alcohol (6-12 drinks) on Friday and Saturday nights religously up until last weekend. It did not seem to result in any improvement though. I do generally feel better when I have a couple beers, but once again wake up feeling terrible.
- The month before the big panic attack up until present I have been eating healthier (used to eat mostly fast food) and decreasing my caffeine intake (had cut to about half as of that attack, and have since eliminated it for 1 week, and have now started again only with 1 cup of tea per morning).
I feel as if maybe I just messed up my system by changing so many factors, but I don't know what I should do. I've tried experimenting with different things, but I can't identify anything that is consistently helpful except for the morning caffeine (but only for a few hours).
Should I go ahead and start taking the lexapro or try something else first?
