I ahve been on and off Lexapro for about 5+ years now this Aug I finally was able to get off. Was ok for a few weeks then I started to feel depressed and having panic again. So I tried St Johns wort and have been on it for about 1 month. Doesn't really seem to be helping much. So my question is can I start back up on Lexapro (only 5 mg ) tomorrow after taking St Johns wort today. I do see a dr but dont have an appt until Dec so any input would be helpful. Or maybe if there is something I can add to the St Johns Wort that will help with the anxiety.

I am currently taking 10 mg of Lexapro a day for anxiety attacks.. I heard that mixing this medication with St Johns wort may cause serotonin syndrome.
This may be a stupid question but I was just looking at my facial moisturizer and St Johns wort extract is listed as one of the ingredients. Should I stop using this cream or does the St Johns wort not interact with the Lexapro unless it's injested??

In light of other question, that I am off lexapro for 3days now and experiencing w/drawl symptoms. I had been on lexapro for about 4 yrs, except when pg w/my last child, then started day she was born. (tho took while pg w/my 2nd child)

I have been on 10-20mgs of Lexapro for almost 3 years. I tried to go off of it by tapering earlier this year, but felt severely anxious and depressed. I don't like the apathetic feelings and numbness and tiredness I feel from Lexapro and thought I'd try something natural like St. John's Wort but I heard they are not to be taken together. Any advice on this, and tapering off Lexapro while getting on St. John's Wort? Thank you.

Been on many antidepressants over the past 15 years; building immunity within 1 yr always had Dr. changing my med and dosage until St. John's Wort=it was the best working for over 2 yrs. I was taken off only to allow brain surgery 10 yrs ago. Not long after the brain surgery, my psych. got me onto Lexapro. It has worked fair, but in the past year with ups and severe downs, generally getting me back to basic 20mg daily. I asked my therapist if I could switch to SJW. She ok'd, simply with the idea to start adding SJW mildly while lowering the Lexapro at the same time, but didn't give any timeline. (My guess: drop Lexapro to 10mg day but start taking one 300mg SJW at the same time; within a week, frop Lex to 5mg but increase the SJW to 600; within another week, drop the Lex, then 4th week, up SJW to 900.) As I've been reading websites, there seems to be Much warning about (1) going off the Lexapro too quickly, and (2) not even attempting the med/herb together but instead totally be weaned off the Lexapro. (Physicians have diagnosed that what came on as strong depression this past year was chiefly hormone/glands going way off after hysterectomy 2 yrs ago. Since taking bioidentical hormones for 3 mos now, I've had a very noticeable change in attitude and energy.) Is my change to SJW like this really a bad idea?

• I mixed tryptophan, St. John's Wort and Lexapro?

I took 10mg of Lexapro with 300mg of St. John's Wort and 100mg of Tryptophan. I had forgotten that I took the St John's Wort and Tryptophan two hours earlier so I took the Lexapro. I'm a little nervous now, will there be any bad effects other than drowsiness? (that's the whole reason I took it)
