Hi, I'm being evaluated for medication to help treat generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), major depressive disorder (MDD), and eating disorders. I have a few questions about how Lexapro works and how it could affect me. I'd appreciate if I could get some answers from experienced users.
1. Does it actually cause weight gain? That would be horrible considering I'm recovering from an eating disorder...and if it does cause weight gain, is it because it jacks up your metabolism, or because it makes you eat loads?
2. Did it actually make you feel less anxious and/or depressed? Please describe.
3. What were some side effects you can think of?
4. How long did it start working for you, if it did?
5. Weaning off - if you did wean off it, was it a horrid experience? What are "brain zaps" like?
6. Did you become more suicidal (if you already were)?
7. Did you sleep better/worse?
8. Did your personality change? How did friends/family react to you - different, same?
9. Did you lose your "edge," or become dulled/blunted, did you lose intelligence...?
10. Any other comments?
Sorry if some questions seem stupid...I just want to be a little more sure of any decisions my doctor makes.
Best wishes and thanks.
