• Comparing the SSRI's - Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, etc.?
|
I know that all drugs work differently on different people, but I'm just posing very general questions.
Which SSRI tends to be the most effective for the most people? And which tends to have the lowest amount of side effects?
I took Paxil years ago for anxiety, and it was wonderful - worked great, and zero side effects except for the dreaded sexual side effcts. Withdrawal was bad but manageable by weaning myself slowly. More recently, I took it again, and it put me to sleep. I was yawning all day. Same with Lexapro.
My problems have increased now to incude depression as well. I tried Wellbutrin for a couple of days, and the first two days and the first night were fine, just a little dizziness, but the second night it made my anxiety way worse, and I couldn't sleep because I was having panic attacks and my heart was racing. I couldn't sit still.
I am thinking I need to go back to an SSRI, and potentially add the Wellbutrin back in once my anxiety is under control.
Prozac is the only one of the group I've truly never touched. Technically not Celexa either, but that's basically just another form of Lexapro. I was on Zoloft for a very short period of time a long time ago with no issue.
Any general thoughts on the differences between these meds?
I know these meds need a certain amount of time before giving up, but the wellbutrin made me have terrible panic attacks, heart racing, etc, and there was no way I could go in to work Monday like that.
I know Lexapro is not exactly the same as Celexa, but it's pretty darn close. They just pulled one of the isomers out of Celexa to make Lexapro, hoping that it would result in less side effects. (Or at least give them a new patent...)

• I have been prescribed Toprol XL 50 mg, Lexapro 10mg, and Ativan 0.5 mg for my Anxiety, High Blood Pressure?
|
and depression. What kind of differences will these medications have on me compared to when I was taking Atenlol 25mg and Prozac 100mg. The later combination was only increasing my depression which is why my doctor changed my meds. Thnx.

• Can't Get Over Severe Depression?
|
I've had severe depression for over 2 years now. I've had anxiety since I was very young and when I started college the stress just pushed me over the edge and I developed severe OCD, Depression, and Bi-polar disorder. I had been dating a girl for about a year but when I started having severe mental issues she broke up with me, making my depression much much worse. I was hospitalized for a week for self-harming behaviors. Over the past 2 years I've been put on literally about 20 different medications including tons of anti-depressants like zoloft, paxil, prozac, lexapro, celexa, abilify, etc... None of them had any significant effect and caused some nasty side effects. I've also had tons and tons of therapy including a month long intensive program. Nothing works. Nothing helps. I've tried just about everything. I've spent lots of time with friends, exercised, improved eating habits, gotten a job, draw, play instruments, gotten hobbies, taken classes, all to try to distract myself and give me some type of purpose in life but none of it has helped at all. I still feel sad and completely empty all the time. I lost my job because my OCD made me too slow at completing tasks. I'm doing terrible in school because I can't concentrate and have absolutely no motivation because I'm so depressed. And worst of all, I still cant get over my ex who has no interest in me anymore. I've dated a few girls since her but they can't compare. I don't know what to do anymore.

• Thoughts on those that have used Effexor?
|
I like many have been diagnosed by my physician with depression an generalized anxiety disorder. I have tried many anti-depressants( prozac, paxil, wellbutrin and lexapro) some worked to a point an others did nothing! I have also tried many benzodiazepines and settled on klonopin as needed. My doc just prescribed me Effexor and I would like to know what others who have used this drug think of it? When responding please take into consideration the med I have used in the past compared to which meds you may have used in the past. I am trying to find someone with a similar med an diagnosis back ground, but of course all comments are welcomed!!!
Thanks so far on all your comments!! Good to hear from others on it!!!
