•Voting Question: Why do people feel the need to use drugs like Lexapro? I mean really!? Do people read the side effects first?
|
I just googled the side effects of taking like Lexapro for example... Look, suicidal thoughts or attempts are in there. Just the other day actually I watched a video of someone who commited suicide from being put on Lexapro. They aren't SIDE effects, they are the actual EFFECTS. and why would anyone want to risk getting so messed up over it? There's even "worsening of depression" in there. sooo what's the point?
"ipation; decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; increased sweating; lightheadedness when you stand or sit up; loss of appetite; nausea; stomach upset; tiredness; trouble sleeping.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Lexapro:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bizarre behavior; black or bloody stools; chest pain; confusion; decreased concentration; decreased coordination; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; memory loss; menstrual period changes; new or worsening agitation, panic attacks, aggressiveness, impulsiveness, irritability, hostility, exaggerated feeling of well-being, restlessness, or inability to sit still; persistent or severe ringing in the ears;persistent, painful erection; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent anxiety or trouble sleeping; severe or persistent headache; stomach pain; suicidal thoughts or attempts; tremor; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual or severe mental or mood changes; unusual weakness; vision changes; worsening of depression."
There's even memory loss, seizures, difficulty breathing, etc... I have asthma and I wouldn't ever risk it getting worse. Sorry to burst your bubble guys but suffocating isn't too fun.

• Anti-depressants & sexual side effects??
|
I am diagnosed with cyclothymia (a less intense bi-polar disorder), obsessive compulsive disorder, and ADD. I have fast changing mood swings, obsessive thoughts, anxiety etc. My psychiatrist wants me to take Lamictal, but I have refused because of the horrible side effects like the rash and Steven Johnson syndrome. Obviously I have enough problems then to worry about dying as well. I am looking for any advice about a pill that will possibly not give me sexual side effects. I tried Prozac about a year and a half ago and within one week I had no sex drive and could not reach an orgasm no matter what. I stopped taking it and then recently tried Lexapro and within 3 days the same thing happened. I don't need my sex life to go sour on top of everything else. My husband has said to do whatever makes me happy, but no sex will make us both unhappy and I'm not going to have sex when theres nothing there. Anyone know of a pill that I haven't tried that doesn't have that side effect? Thanks!!
I know that Lamictal is a mood stabilizer, not an anti-depressant. I haven't taken it so I dont know if it will give sexual side effects. I dont want to because of the possible rash.

• what's your experience with Lamictal or Lamotrigine for treatment of depression?side effects?
|
I just got a presc. for lamotrigine to treat major depression and mood disorder. She's starting me on only 25mg and increasing in 2 weeks...I do not have seizures...
There are many symptoms I'm having but the main one is that I"m constantly overwhelmed with my identity and problems. Also, My emotions rule my life, i'm impulsive. So overwhelmed to stagnation. Multitalented and very creative but can't make anything happen. Short fuze. sleep way too much. PTSD. Borderline personality tendencies. I"m 37, beautiful, intelligent, extremely talented, funny (in groups) athletic, but miserable, depressed, scared to let anyone in my life (abusive relationships almost killed me), and single... Just some backround stuff...
I'm scared of this rash that may cause permanent scarring. And I'm scared of hair loss. sounds like it's good for a lot of people with little side effects but the above sound horrible. I've been on a few antidepressants~ Effexor~ hated it!!, Lexapro, Zoloft, WEllbutrin.
Do you know if the brand drug has less strange side effects and is better effective? Or is it just that it's bad to start with the brand then go to generic? When I was on brand Effexor then got a script for generic it sucked. But maybe it's ok if you start with generic?

• Anyone who takes or knows anything about Lexapro?
|
I was prescribed Lexapro today for anxiety, panic disorder, and OCD. I just did some research on the drug, and a few things I read made me uneasy about taking it. For one, nothing I have read supports that Lexapro helps with OCD, and I really want that to be cured. Also, I read a whole list of warnings:
"Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
-seizures
-tremors, shivering, or twitching
-problems with balance or coordination
-confusion, fast heartbeat
Obviously, I already have problems with anxiety, and reading this long list of terrible things that could happen to me made me anxious about taking a medicine to prevent me from being anxious! I'm also DEATHLY afraid of allergic reactions, and according to this article I could get a quite serious one. How rare do you think these symptoms are? Any kind words of encouragement? Please only nice answers! :)
Oh, and I'm also DEATHLY afraid of seizures.
Thanks for all the answers! I actually just took it, all of your words were very reassuring! Thanks again!

• What does it mean when none of the meds help you?
|
You've tried medicine for depression and anxiety and none of them worked and you had bad adverse side effects from it. Such as more irritibility, meanness(nasty to others without realizing it), agitated, rashes, hallucinations, itchy eyes itchy nose and sneezing uncontrollably, manic, doing risky behaviors and things you would never do.
You've tried and all failed:
Paxil(caused risky behaviors, manic)
Zoloft(same as Paxil)
Celexa(itchy eyes watery eyes itchy nose sneezing uncontrollably after one day of taking it)
Welbutrin(caused meanness-being nasty to others without realizing it)
Prozac(felt weird, agitated and irritible)
Limictum(hallucinations and rash)
Lexapro(agitated, irritable and crossed eyes)
If none of these work are there other options that'll help?
What does it mean when none of those meds help you but made you worse?
I am white(and I disagree with the guy that said it doesn't work on 'non-whites' that's bull crap)
and it is low dose.

You are 22 female and white if you needed to know that
I am not bipolar without the meds it's just that paxil for example makes me manic.
I don't take illegal drugs including steroids
there aren't other meds causing the effects
I am not overdosing they start out small
I never use any of these meds back to back. I only try one brand at a time and I'm on them for more than a day(except celexa) and it's months before I quit hoping the side effects would go away and they don't.

• Only 23 and very sick. No one can figure it out. What is wrong with me?
|
very underweight female. 23. born almost 4 months premature. was healthy until the age of 17 when i developed these symptoms:
extreme fatigue, diagnosis of gallbladder disease (+removal of gallbladder). developed moderate depression (being treated successfully with zoloft. have also been on lexapro, celexa, prozac. all worked but side effects intolerable.), developed very painful joint pain in hips and down legs. (arthritis test negative). have daily headaches on the top of my skull. tested positive for COPD (have never smoked and have no history in the family). developed anxiety. developed unexplained tachycardia (being treated with atenolol.), developed rash on stomach which has been present for several years on and off. developed extremely painful menstrual cramps (periods have been stopped entirely by birth control medicine - nuva ring). Have developed melanoma in weird places not exposed to the sun and have not ever tanned or been out in the sun much. No scan ever performed. Spots seem to pop up overnight and when biopsy is done they have been melanoma cells. Each has been removed, with the last not being able to get clear margins. Have to be watched every few months to see if more pigmentation shows up.
Generally do not feel "well." Not terrible, but not well. Am VERY tired all the time.
Family History: Grandmother and Mother: prolapse mitral valve. Treated with Atenolol. Both had dysthimia as well. Treated successfully with Lexapro. Both had rare cancers. Mother had extremely rare form of lymphoma, one of 3 in the US at the time. Grandmother had bone cancer.
Fraternal Grandmother: drug induced lupus. Bladder cancer. thryoid disease, goiter removed.
Fraternal Grandfather: Lung Cancer. Diabetes.
Father: IBS. Allergies. Hay fever.
Sister: High testosterone levels (unexplained.) Weird rash on arms and face - mystery to doctors.
Great Aunt: very very rare form of Leukemia developed in her late 60's.
What is WRONG with me?!

• I'm having strange symptoms. What could be causing them?
|
For the past two weeks, I have been having stange symptoms. These symptoms include: emotional numbness, forgetfulness (forgetting what I'm thinking mid-thought--frightening!!), and cloudy-headedness. I have also had headaches.
I recently switched medications from Sertraline (Zoloft) to Lexapro (as of this past weekend, increased dosage from 25mg to 50mg, as well). I am also taking Lamictal (25mg) and Clonazepam(.25 mg). Frankly, I don't really like to take all these medications because I worry about the future effects they will have on me. My pdoc knows this, and he is doing his best to keep the number of meds down. He has also told me that I can call him anytime if I start to experience side effects or if I have any questions. I think he is a very competent pdoc. I like him.
Should I tell him immediately about these symptoms? I know that Lamictal can cause a certain syndrome that starts with a severe rash. Are these symptoms symptomatic of any kind of syndrome or side effects that you or others have experienced while taking the above mentioned medications?
I have also been having a lot of stress, too, which may be contributing to these issues. Any advice is appreciated :).
