• Which side effects have you experienced while taking Lexapro?
|
I'm 20 & I've been taking Lexapro for anxiety. I've been taking it for about a month. The only side effects I've experienced were drowsiness & headaches. They're not severe, but I was wondering if it's normal? Other than that, I feel great.

• I'm concerned with the side effects related to the lithium my psychiatrist just prescribed, any help?
|
I've been unresponsive to anti-depressants for the last 3 years (since I've been diagnosed with PTSD). I've been on Prozac, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and Cymbalta (plus a little Xanax thrown in there for anxiety). Now I'm on Wellbutrin and Cymbalta, and we're adding Lithium. Has anyone experienced undesirable side effects? I'm mostly concerned with weight gain. I am very active and eat well (most of the time ;). I've dealt with some side effects from the other meds, and they usually hit me pretty hard.
Anyways, just looking for a little info and support. Thanks!

• If you haven't taken Lexapro for a few days & then begin to take it again, can your side effects reoccur?
|
I've been taking Lexapro for a little over a month now & I get samples from my doctor's. Well, I ran out Friday, so I called & they told me to come pick it up, but I couldn't because I was working & obviously they're not open on Saturday. I asked my dad to pick them up, but he never did. Well, I took it tonight & I'm kind of nauseated and my heart was pounding. I don't feel as if I'm coming down w/ anything. Although, it may be due to the pizza I ate for dinner, because just thinking about it makes me gag & no I'm not pregant. Anyways, could my medicine do that if I haven't taken it a few days?

• normal for antidepressant side effects?
|
I'm 15 years old. About 5 days ago I was prescribed the antidepressant lexapro. I understood there were potential side effects that I might have to deal with as seritontin was building in my system, and maybe even a few after the matter, but on day 5 I'm sort of worried. I have chronic depersonalization, and experience effects of derealization and at this point I'm kind of where I started with the disorder. I can't really talk to people because I can't concentrate on what they're saying even if I try really hard (which was a short lived phase of when I first gained depersonalization), things seem pretty foggy and blurry even though my vision is fine, and DP in general seems to be more intense and I feel a lot more dissociated. Also my anxiety seems pretty bad, but it's different than how it was prior to taking medication, now my anxiety includes worrying about every body ache, I've thought I was going unconcious or having a heart attack a few times and sort of panicked, and I feel pretty paranoid.
So do antidepressants get better before they get worse? I'm seeing my doctor in a few days but I sorta want to know if this is typical to take a load off my mind if you know what I mean. Thanks if you can answer :)

• Given these symptoms and side effects...best SSRI?
|
I am living in the UK for work and my depression has become severe (I just scored a '39' on the BDI and similarly high on social anxiety), and so I do believe I need to be immediately medicated. Because the NHS system means that it could be months before I see a psychiatric specialist, however, the prescriptions are written by general physicians who are not properly trained in mental health. They are happy to dole out SSRIs, but that's about it. I've been on Effexor, Lexapro, and Prozac (not for very long). With all of these, I experienced weight gain, fatigue, flat affect, and anorgasmia. I was prescribed Wellbutrin XL before moving to the UK, and although I didn't experience these negative side effects, I wasn't on it long enough to determine if it worked (only a few weeks). Because Wellbutrin is not approved as an antidepressant in the UK, however, they will not prescribe it here for that purpose. They're very strict about off-label usage and can lose their license, apparently...
Christina W--that's all fine and good, the conspiracy theories, but how does it help those of us who genuinely need medication?

• Relationship becoming mundane due to effects of anti-depressants?
|
My boyfriend and I have been dating for a year and a half now and everything has been great. Our personalities and interests are nearly identical and we are both really sexual. However, recently, my boyfriend started taking the anti-depressant Lexapro to help with his anxiety. Although I am incredibly happy for him because he is now motivated to do many things and he is productive and much more relaxed, I am worried that it is also effecting him in a negative manner. I am not an advocate of anti-depressants, as I had used them previously and I know exactly what mood changes they had instilled in me at the time of use. My boyfriend seems to have become somewhat emotion-less and his libido has vanished. I know that decreased sexual desire is a side effect of Lexapro.
I love my boyfriend very much, but lately, with his lack of any kind of affection or seemingly, loss of a soul, I find myself feeling quite detached from him. I almost feel angry towards him at times. I feel like our relationship is not exciting anymore, and it used to be up until he began taking his medication.
We never really argue, and I do not want to hurt my boyfriend’s feelings by directly saying, “Hey I really don’t like you when you’re on those pills.” So my question is, how do I go about speaking with him about how I feel? I want my boyfriend to have the help he needs, but at the same time, I do not want to feel detached from him because of his sudden lack of personality due to the numbing effects of his anti-depressants. How should I address this issue to him, without hurting his feelings?
I should include that we are also young; 22.

•Voting Question: Have you experienced headaches while taking Lexapro?
|
I've been taking Lexapro for anxiety. It's been almost a month since I began taking it. I rarely have headaches, but I've been having them every now & then. They're not severe, though. I heard it's a side effect, but I just want to be sure.

• lexapro and unusual bruising?
|
I've been on Lexapro (for depression) for about a month. A couple of days ago i noticed a HUGE bruise on my calf, surround by a bunch of smaller bruises. I have no recollection of hitting or bumping my leg to cause such a large bruise. I was re-reading the side effects for my medication and it stated that unusual bruising is considered a severe side effect of the drug and requires medical attention. So my question is, how bad would the bruising have to be to be considered unusual and if the bruising is in fact caused by the medication, what does that mean? What did the medication cause to happen? Is it urgent that I contact my doctor? TIA!
