Im going to an open house inspection this weekend in Inner Western Sydney, with 3 friends. (Its a four bedroom place for us).
I've heard getting a rental property in Sydney is really hard at the moment.
What are our chances?

We have all rented before.
I just think we will be discriminated against because of our age.
Who would accept a group of kids, over a family?

We are a young couple with one child.
My husband has a stable Business and also works for a company.
I am a childcare worker on maternity leave going back to work next year sometime.
We have been looking for a villa or townhouse 2 bedroom for many months now applied for a few been REFUSED ! by law they aren't obliged to tell you why.! (the agent)
We are looking in the sydney area not being picky at all!! in suburbs far from the city and close.
Its like an auction more than anything ,people show up at these open houses and offer more for the rental property than advertised ,use bribery to get it as well sadly most agents accept!!!
It isn't fair to people like us who go to an inspection based on the price advertised and quality of the property and get knocked back because someone offered extra $20 or so!!
ANYONE ELSE HAVING PROBLEMS FINDING A HOME FOR RENT IN SYDNEY AUSTRALIA??

My husband and I would like to live in Sydney for a year and I'd be interested in any information about renting properties there (sites to look at so that I can get an idea of prices etc) or any information on agencies that organise house exchanges so that we could live in someone's house whilst they come over to live in ours in the UK.

• Tips for applying for rental properties? Help!?

I have been looking with a friend at rental properties in the Inner West of Sydney. I understand that the rental market is aggressive at the moment, and that agents can be extremely picky! I was hoping to get some input from someone who works in the real estate industry.
I have been applying for places with my current housemate. We both don't have rental history. She is 27 I am 21. We both have full time jobs, and I work for a TV production (crew) which I thought would benefit us somehow, but hasn't. We both have work references, but still our personal references haven't been called (with 8 or so applications being submitted). What can we do to help our case? Offer to pay more rent? Do they do that in Sydney? Should we persist with the application?
Also, we have been coming across a lot of great 3 bedders, but it's only us applying. We have stated we want to get a third person when we have settled in, and that we would get their name on the lease, when approved through the agency. Is this a good or bad thing?
