•Voting Question: I am weaning off of Lexapro...side effects?

I have been taking 10 mg of Lexapro since September 2009. I have now decided to wean off of it and my doctor is having me take 5 mg for a week, 5 mg every other day for a week and then stop. I have been reading the side effects of stopping Lexapro and it's kind of freaking me out. Dizziness, brain "zapping" and upset stomach? Should I expect these or any symptoms with my weaning plan?

i was put on the lowest dosage of lexapro about a 1 1/2 year ago due to situational anxiety/depression. the situation has now resolved, and the doctor has told me to take one every other day for a couple of weeks, then 3 a week, then 2, then one, etc. i just started weaning off yesterday. the only thing i've noticed is a little tension at night (which was hideous when i first had to start taking the medicine). i don't want to slip back into the cycle of anxiety again...is it normal to have a few symptoms like this in the beginning of weaning off? please don't say, "ask you doctor." i'm very aware that is an option. i want YOUR opinions and experiences.
also, my first day without taking it: i noticed i had really vivid, weird dreams that night. does anyone think this low dosage might have affected my sex drive? it seems to have gone down since i started the lexapro. hoping that will come back :)

• How do I stop the anxiety and pain side effects when I come off of Lexapro?

I love the way I tolerate EVERYTHING while taking this, but I have gained 40 lbs and could care less if I don't get up off the couch and exercise....I have low energy, libido, longevity at any task now. This will be my 2nd try at weaning off Lexapro. Last time I no tolerance to high stress situations, couldn't think straight, I hurt so bad I couldn't sleep.....Any advice?

I was taking Lexapro for around 7-8 years, and I weaned off of it to see how I was without it. its been around 4 months off of it and I am starting it again. Just wondering how long can I expect the side effects to last? I am getting very mild flu like symptoms right now/lost of appetite. Anyone else ever stop taking it then have to start again? how did it go? Thanks

I stopped taking Lexapro about a couple months ago, but ever since I started taking it up until now I've never been able to feel fully rested no matter how much I sleep. I know those kind of drugs can cause a person to feel fatigue while he is taking them, but is it something that could still be affecting me even after weaning myself off of it?

I have been on lexapro 10mg once daily for 8 days for my mild to medium anxiety. I have been feeling worse the past few days than I ever have. My anxiety is worse, I feel sleepy all the time but when I try to go to sleep at night I have a hard time falling asleep then I keep waking up through out the night. I am thinking about quitting lexapro, I talked to my Doctor however he just told me to keep taking it but break the pill in half. he just seems to want to keep me on a med no matter what. Sorry for being long winded, my question is, do I need to wean myself off after being on it for such little time?

I have been on Lexapro 10 mg for 3 months now for depression. I was put on it by my OB/GYN b/c I had a baby and immediately after my husband and I split and we are now going through a divorce. Yes, I am depressed and stressed, but I absolutely hate the side effects of Lexapro and don't really think it's doing all that much for me. I am tired ALL the time and can barely even keep my eyes open to drive sometimes. He says i am tired because I am depressed and I need a higher dose. I don't know if I want to do this, though. I like to have a couple drinks on the weekends, but ever since I started Lex, every time I drink, I blackout and don't remember anything. Also, the night-sweats are rediculous. I hate hate hate that side effect. Not to mention the sexual side effects, especially if I'm gonna be going back into the dating scene. I don't know if I should try the 20 mg or wean myself off of the 10 mg. Will it be harder to wean off of the 20 mg if I try it for a while? Confused, please advise. Thanks.

• Has anyone switched suddenly with no weaning from Lexapro to Effexor?

My doctor has told me switch from Lexapro 30mg which I have been taking for a year and a half and start 75mg of Effexor. He said to do it with no break between, just one night take the Lexapro and then the next night take the Effexor. Has anyone else done this?? I understand that just because some people may experience something, it doesnt mean that everyone does, I am just curious to know if it has been done successfully before. I am nervous about doing this becasue of the side effects with switching so suddenly but I can't wean off the Lexapro and the doctor said there really is no reason to if you are only going to go on somthething else anyway, you may as well stay medicated. Any experiences similar to this??

If so, what were the side effects. I am in the process of weaning myself off of 10 mg. and i feel dizzy. Just wonderning if anyone else experienced the dizziness and how long it lasted. Thank you!

I have been on Lexapro for 4 years. 2 years on 10 mg and 2 years on 20 mg. I am VERY nervous about coming off of the medication. I have gained a lot of weight since going on this medication and I have also started having the sexual side effects of this drug. I need to get my marriage back on track sexually we try and try but to no avail. I recently started taking 150 mg of Wellbutrin which is supposed to help but is keeping me up at night. I have read that some people have taken Wellbutrin in the morning and Lexapro at night. I would like to try this but I would also like to reduce my Lexapro back down to 10mg and see if my sexual side effects lessen and then eventually get off the medication all together. PLEASE HELP!
