• Lexapro. Side effects? Mainly for women.?
|
I have been on lexapro now for a little over a week. I have noticed a few "side effects" that i was wondering if anyone else had. I take it at night and it helps me fall asleep but i am up at 3 in the morning and can't go back to sleep. I am peeing a LOT and my boobs are very tender. It hurts to touch them or put on a bra. Are theses normal or should i call my doctor?

• What are the most common side effects for women taking Lexapro, and are the results worth it?
|
I was recently prescribed Lexapro for my depression and anxiety.
As of now I have only taken it once in a small dosage as recommended by my doctor to start me off.
I have been reading up on the side effects and have seen many woman complaining about extreme weight gain, fatigue, libido issues, mood swings, and many other negative side effects. After reading about these issues I have begun to question whether or not I would like to continue taking Lexapro.
I also heard it is VERY hard to discontinue use once you have been taking it for a while.
I understand all anti-depressants have side-effects, but I want to take the medication I believe is best for me. If I continue to have doubts I plan on contacting my doctor and discussing it with him.
Has anyone taken Lexapro before and had any particular side effects? If so, what ones? Are they worth dealing with to rid me of my depression and anxiety?

I recently just started taking Lexapro and I am worried about the sexual side effects. I don't mean to sound dumb, but are those more for men than women? If they apply to women too, do they go away after a while or will I never be able to climax? Cause as we all know, that would sux! Any info or tips are greatly appericated. Thanks

• Women taking Lexapro: Did you experience a decreased libido?
|
From the Lexapro website: "Lexapro is well tolerated by most people. The most commonly reported side effects of Lexapro are nausea, insomnia, problems with ejaculation, somnolence, increased sweating, fatigue, decreased libido, and anorgasmia. Most of the side effects experienced by patients taking Lexapro are mild to moderate and go away with continued treatment, and usually do not cause patients to stop taking Lexapro."
Did you experience a decreased libido? If so, how much did it drop and did it come back as you continued on the drug. I know this is pretty hard to measure. My wife says it has killed hers and we have basically stopped. Seems kind of extreme but possible I guess.
Thank you all for your feedback. Great personal stories and you really helped me more than you know.
I almost awarded best to destinishadow1 for pointing out the poetic nature of my question. LOL
Jess: Thanks for sharing. I think as long as your happy then don't worry about it all. I think your one of the few who would call this side effect "interesting" LOL
Country Mom: At least your friend was doing the job :-) j/k I don't really want my wife to do it if it were a job or chore because I can take a good guess at how awkard that probably is.
stephsteph320: Please email me with whatever tricks you do to keep it "regular" WOW!
kelly: Nice Save! I don't know why men take this stuff personal. Fortunatly, I take Adderall for ADHD so I KNOW about effects and side effects but there was still this, "its because of my small..." is why she isn't. Stupid male brain! :-)
Meg: Lucky You! How good was your libido before you got on the meds :-) Everyone's biochemistry different.
Dennis B: Congratulations. You have made sure I'll never take Lexapro (LOL).

• what were your side effects from lexapro?
|
Okay so this is my 2nd time trying lexapro. the first time my doctor started me off at 20mg the first day. I had no idea that was way too much to start anyone off at. That same day my heart was racing, i couldn't stop talking, I was on cloud nine. about three hours later i crashed hard from it and actually threw up. I felt as though I was coming down from a night filled of cocain, i guess that would be the best way to put it. ( and no I don't do drugs ) That scared me so much I didn't try any sort of anxiety/depression medicine for almost a year.
I went back yesterday because I'm having a really hard time again and this time he started me on 10 mg. I didn't get the happy high feeling, I just feel "frozen" my mind is racing but I don't want to talk, it almost feels like it would take to much energy to form a sentence. And my heart seems like it might be racing a little bit too.
Is this "normal"? did anyone else have this. Also I'm a tiny woman. I'm only 114lbs. Is that too much depending on weight? Can you cut the pill in half?
I'm just really shaky, I also have a son and I'm a single mom so I don't like this at all for that reason too, I need to be able to be a great mommy and not just sitting there like a lump.

• Does Lexapro and other anit-depressants cause decreased libido in women?
|
My partner and I are sexually active, but it seems that I never reach orgasm. I've been taking Lexapro, an anti-depressant for a year now. I've only heard that it can cause sexual side effects. Could it be my Lexapro?

• How long will this side effect last? lexapro.?
|
Just started taking Lexapro not even a week ago. Ive had some side effects. I know its all part of startiung a new drug. Two are particularly bothersome.
1.Not sleeping well despite fatigue and feeling strung out the next day and stimulants not waking me. Will this go away after a week or two?
2. I have been insanely aroused. Its uncomfortable because its consistant. I am always wanting sex and masturbation doesnt do the trick. It feels GREAT but leaves me more anxious and desperate for my husband to come home from work! Ive came randomly because, movements, underware against me, anything, Im aroused. That joke about men getting erect whenever the wind blows, lol, thats me(woman) buyt its very uncomfortable. Makes me anxious, irritable and uncomfortable because I just cant get that release, at least not until my husband finally gets home.
Of course he is super happy with this side effect and I think its nice but when can I expect the intensity to fade enough to where I can get through the day without changing my undeware multiple times or feeling like I have to lay down nakjed just so I dont have any clothes rubbing against it? I feel like a teen boy witgh his first porn mag!

• Cymbalta! Side effects for young adults treating anxiety?
|
I'm currently 21 years old and my doctor has given me 30mg to start out this week than upped to 60mg next week of cymbalta for anxiety disorder. Does anyone else my age take this drug for the same reason? I'm looking for bad side effects that I should be aware of. While taking lexapro I had the worst side effects I could imagine and want to make sure I know what I'm getting into before hand. I have surfed the web and have read the common side effects but have yet to find any reviews from women my age using this drug?

• I have a serious question for anyone currently taking, or have taken "Lexapro"?
|
I know of 3 women who currently taking "Lexapro". Two are being treated for "depression/anxiety", one is for "panic disorder. Has anyone experienced this possible side effect? It's an "obsessive" interest in other men. Although these women know these men, were given flattering attention, (even the slightest) it's as if these women are consumed by these men, unrealistically. Most importantly, these women were the most rational, realistic woman regardless,
of their "conditions" before "Lexapro".
Lexapro totally keeps the panic attacks under control for one woman.
Any "OCD'S" as a side effect noticed by "Lexapro"?
