• I'm thinking about tapering off Lexapro- Any advice?
|
Been taking Lexapro for 3 1/2 years now for dibilitating panic attacks. It has worked great! I still experience the occasional worry, but nothing compared to what I used to. I know that I need to work with my doc on this but thought maybe I could get some advice before I make my decision. I have been doing some research on tapering off Lexapro and have read hundreds of reports from people saying that they have experience horrific side effects like brain shivering, ice cold sensations through head, brain freezing. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? My main question is do I have to worry about the panic attacks coming back? They were so bad 3 years ago that I couldn't make it to work and my mom had to take care of my kids- I was like a prisoner! I don't want to go through that ever again but I feel like it's time to stop the Lexapro.

•Voting Question: Tapering off of Lexapro?
|
I had been taking both Lexapro and Wellbutrin XL for about a year. Under my doctor's guidance, I have successfully tapered off of the Wellbutrin XL, and started to taper off of Lexapro about a month ago. I have tapered from 20 mg, down to 15, then 10, then 5. 3 days ago I decided to take my last pill and today I am feeling very drugged up. Foggy minded, and a little dizzy. Almost as if I haven't slept in a few days, kind of feeling. It's very irritating!
I have read that omega-3's and B vitamins are good for people suffering from "brain zaps". Do you think it could help with what I am going through?
Should I cut the 5mg's in half, and take those to ease the transition?

• How do I safely taper off taking Lexapro?
|
I am on 20 mg of Lexapro and I would like to try life without an anti depressant. I can go a day without taking it but then I start to feel sick.

• Lexapro-How did doc tell you to taper off?
|
I am coming off of Lexapro (10mg). My doctor advised to take one pill every other day for 2 weeks. I am on the second week and am starting to get dizzy and weird feeling in my head. My emotions are okay, a little strong, which is good since they were ALL dead! haha I am just wondering if the tapering off period should be longer than 2 weeks. This seems short from what others have said they were told to do. Just curious on the time period that others were told by medical professionals/pharmacists.

• I tapered off Lexapro and Remeron and have been totally off for 22 days. I am still having withdrawals...?
|
I feel awful. I feel like I am sick, my neck is hurting and it almost feels like my throat is tight. I have a horrible headache that will not go away no matter what I take for it. I am still emotionally unstable (getting very angry or crying) which is not like me. I was on Paxil for 6 years and Lexapro and Remeron for 2 years. 8 years total. Is this normal? Will I ever feel better? My doc wants to put me on a low dose of Cymbalta but I don't want to go back on an antidepressant because I never want to go through these withdrawals ever again! Has anyone else gone through withdrawals for this long? Any advice on how to get through this would be appreciated.

• Came off Effexor XR sucessfully, now time to come off Lexapro to save money, what to do?
|
I'm a recent college graduate and have a job, but it's only a temp, it's seasonal that lasts till November (since this isn't full time, there's no health coverage, so I had to get own which only covers emergencies). So I've been working my @$$ off finding another job that's permanent and have over $8,100 saved up in the bank now. Had my first interview earlier this week, I followed up; no result yet till next week (can smell rejection right around the corner; but whatever happens will happen then), no luck yet. Applied to another ad on Craigslist tonight. To put it, since I haven't found another job that offers health benefits yet and I'm desperately trying to move out of my parents house, I thought I'd just cut out an expense; which is my medication. My doc switched me from Effexor to Lexapro about 3 weeks ago; I'm so lucky to come off Effexor without any serious withdrawal so far. So anyway, yea, in order to save money, I'm going to try to taper off my Lexapro now, that way whenever I can finally afford to move out, I don't have the extra expense, and therefore there will be less bills to pay. My parents are still paying for my medications, esp when I was still in school over the years, so just imagine how much money we could have saved if I wasn't on these meds--A d*'mn fortune! My mom could have easily booked another round trip to Europe, and I would have an extra $2,000 saved in my bank account now from all the times I had to help pay for refill over the years! So, what would be the best way to wean off Lexapro on my own? I don't see my doc for another two weeks, so I could use some tips on this now, on how to withdraw and taper off safely. Thanks.

• Tapering off anti-depressants?
|
I have been on the generic Prozac for about 5 months for PPD. I am ready to get off of it, and I started taking half. I was on 50 mg so I am now taking 25. I read that since it has such a long half-life I would be less likely to get withdrawl symptoms, but it's only been several days and I already have the "brain zaps." I also got these when I came off Lexapro a couple years ago but I mistakenly quit that cold turkey, and had severe and frequent brain zaps then. Should I just keep taking half?

• will sex drive return after going off lexapro 10 mg.?
|
after 1 1/2 years of being on even this low dosage, i've noticed a definite drop in drive. i'm tapering off now. how long will it take to get back to being myself again?
counselor oneil, did you read my question? i've just now started tapering off. how would a sex drive come back that fast? it's been 1 week since i've been taking it every other day. i don't think seeing a psychiatrist is a good option at this early point in time.
