• Wellbutrin vs Lexapro?
|
I'm 20 years old and currently on 30mg of Lexapro and 5 mg of Abilify and 100mg of Topamax. The Lexapro and Abilify are obviously for depression, and the Topamax is for weight loss because I gained a huge (no pun intended) amount of weight from being on Lexapro for 3 years.
I started on the Topamax before the Abilify and I lost 20lbs before I plateaued. My pdoc believes it's from the combination of the Lexapro and Abilify because she has another patient that's experiencing the same weight trouble despite extreme diet and exercise.
I've been thinking about switching my antidepressant to something that'll help me lose weight, and that's when I stumbled across Wellbutrin. My only concern is that it deals with different chemicals in the brain from Lexapro. Lexapro has been alright for treating my depression. I still have episodes once a year for a few months though.
What I want to know is if I can take Wellbutrin and still have it treat my depression the same way Lexapro does. Meaning I guess I have a lack of serotonin in my brain because Lexapro works (sort of haha). If I take away the Lexapro and start taking Wellbutrin, will my depression still go away? Or will I just be screwed.
Thanks so much in advance.

• wellbutrin vs lexapro, help please?
|
Hello, I have been taking lexapro for over 2 years now.
Whilst lexapro has taken me a long way emotionally it lacks to help me physically. Life is hard still, simple things make me tired i dont have the up and go attitude i just cant do it.
I understand wellbutrin is able to help me with motivation? Give me a spark for life maybe? I dont care if i feel depressed i just dont want to feel useless beacuse of my depression.
Wellbutrin users:
Dose Wellbutrin give you motivation?
Did it make you gain/lose weight?
Did your appetite increase?
Where you able to do things easier without feeling weak?
Lexapro users:
Whilst you feel less depressed do you also feel unmotivated still?
im at the docotrs on monday, this here is to help me when i go to the docotrs, so i know what to ask
also people may recommend other medications, something more i can ask ask about

• Lexapro vs. Efexor XR vs. Wellbutrin - any advice?
|
I've told my doctor that after 2 years on Lexapro, I don't feel any different. In fact, I feel a bit worse. So she's switching me to Efexor XR (or Effexor XR, depending on where you live!) which I'm excited about. However, I've been reading about it, and I like the sounds of Wellbutrin... Do you think I should ask her if I can go on that instead? Which do you think is best (in your personal experience)?

• vyvanse vs antidepressants?? details inside?
|
Ok so I know this is super long, but bear with me please :)
I have been dealing with serious depression since I was 14 years old; I am now 22. Before I start, please understand that I'm not one of those people who just had a bad day and went running to the doctor for some pills. Noooo no no. Depression, suicide, anxiety, and alcoholism run on BOTH sides of my family, so I got messed up genes. Plus, I have tried therapy, eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, exercise...I've tried to do as much as possible without medication. These things help, but I still definitely need a lot of extra help, hence the meds.
So, that's the back story. I've tried Prozac, Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Citalopram, Celexa, Trazodone, and probably a couple others that I can't remember. None of these antidepressants worked. I couldn't tell a difference AT ALL.
Then, my doctor suggested that maybe I had ADD/ADHD instead of depression. I took a little questionaire thingy and, as it turns out, I do have it. Sooo he prescribed Vyvanse. CHANGED MY LIFE! It was like all of the sudden the "real" me was unleashed from the mental prison that I felt like I'd been in all of that time. I was super happy, SUPER focused (at times I think a little too focused), got stuff done, etc etc. I was way more comfortable in social situations, friendlier, just all around happier and totally more "myself."
The only problem is, Vyvanse is sooooooo expensive! There's NO way I can pay 75 bucks a month. So my question is, what can I switch to that is as good as Vyvanse but not so expensive? I think I need something with a stimulant in it, since none of the antidepressants worked but Vyvanse made a HUGE difference. I've heard of Concerta, Strattera, etc, but I don't know how they are different/the same to Vyvanse. How exactly do these affect your brain? What are the long term side-effects? I am scared of ritalin and adderall because I've heard horror stories about people getting addicted and all kinds of stuff. I want to be on the lowest dose possible and take care of myself through eating right and exercising, etc. I don't plan on relying on a drug for everything, so I don't want something that I will get addicted to or something that will just work like a street drug and make me soar all the time, regardless of what's happening.
I've done a lot of research about different meds, add versus depression, etc. I just want someone else's perspective because I feel like I've hit a brick wall with my research...just trying to find the right med.
Thanks for reading!! :)
PS: how can I be sure if I have depression or if it really is just ADHD that has been misdiagnosed as depression? I mean, obviously the antidepressants didn't work and the ADHD meds did, so doesn't that mean i have ADHD? But sometimes I feel like the Vyvanse makes me a little too happy, if that makes sense. Or maybe it's just because I didn't know it was normal to feel that happy after being sooo sad all the time? How are you supposed to normally feel??

• Which is best? TCA Vs. SSRI Vs. SNRI?
|
Which is better for a person who suffers from anxiety primarily, followed by ADHD and, then Depression? and what is really the difference between these. I have found doctors to peddle what they prefer vs. what may suit an individual and this is driving me crazy as each one wants 4-6 weeks before changing and this is becoming a long and really annoying journey. I had best results with Paxil but it did have some nasty side effects (sexual). Now I am on Wellbutrin ramping up to an augment with Adderall, but that still leaves the anxiety piece unaddressed and this concerns me. I keep hearing people rave about Lexapro (Doctors too) and (Effexor) what's the difference. Finally doctors keep telling me that anxiety medications should only be taken for short periods of time (Xanax) but then I find out there are patients who have it as an augment to an SSRI indefinitely so what gives? I know everyone is different but there has to be a general consensus of some sort.

• Has anyone experienced Cymbalta for longer term (6 moths +)?
|
I am going to be stopping Wellbutrin and starting Cymbalta this next week. I have taken Wellbutrin XL for about 3 years and it worked well til recently. I am going to switch to Cymbalta or possible take them both together depending on how things work. Can anyone give me any long term advice on how Cymbalta works and if it should be taken at night or morning? Does it make you tired or gain weight? I definitely need to lose due to trying Lexapro for 9 weeks I gained and stopped taking it... it made me super tired. Thanks for any input... Can anyone tell me the difference between Wellbutrin vs. Cymbalta?
I actually feel great already weaning off the Wellbutrin. My dr. has me taking 1/2 the last 3 days and starting Cymbalta tonight.... I had NO energy and had slept the last 4 months every chance I got. The Wellbutrin definatley stopped working...and just tappering off has mad a world of difference the last couple of days. Thanks for you input. I am wondering what the Cymbalt will do. I can't deal with something that makes me so tired...
